Fiveprong Fieldworks , 2003

These recent sculptural installations and associated performances relate to scientific experimentation, conflict and ‘otherworldly’ progress. These works embrace aspects of utopian change whilst touching on its obsolescence. Curious objects, altered from abandoned materials, may contain pulsating hearts (and characters) beneath apparently decrepit (and dumb) façades. These constructions are subsequently activated through routes travelled outside; each route trod by ‘Allen’ a transferable persona. This (barely) human composite figure is trying (and often failing) to negotiate the world. These combined performances are suggestive of rituals from the future, whilst relating to specific past/present systems. Suspicious growths and monstrous objects form a natural order defined through construction and genetic manipulation. Allen is revealed inhabiting a place governed by mutant relations and covert social networks.
