‘The word liminal is, perhaps, overused on pages such as there, but it’s the word that springs to mind when wandering through Becky Beasley’s photographs and sculptures.’ There is a ‘deliberate uncertainty at the heart of Beasley’s work: whenever her practice leads her into a room – one marked Photography, the other Sculpture – she seems distinctly unwilling to cross the threshold.
Beasley’s photographs are…about photography, printed so as to emphasize the making of a print, in a way that emphasizes the sculptural. Her sculptures, boxes on unsteady plinths, are close to being designed, useful objects. But, lest anyone think that Beasley has walked through the door of that room marked Sculpture, these boxes are woody realizations of a literary reference, their dimensions drawn from a Faulkner novella.'

She has previously had solo exhibitions in London, Amsterdam, Athens and Glasgow. Beasley is currently working towards solo exhibitions at Office Baroque in Antwerp (September 2007), at Laura Bartlett Gallery in London (October 2007) and a solo statement at Artissima in Turin (November 2007).

She was recently selected for Artist Pension Trust (APT London).

Becky Beasley is represented in London by Laura Bartlett Gallery. Her work was presented at Zoo and Turin Art Fairs in 2006 and at Rotterdam, Düsseldorf, Liste and Zoo Art Fairs in 2007. She was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2006.

Then there is ‘Stumbling Block', two piles of prints on the floor, awkwardly guarding the entrance to a small room, they are as solid as stone, eroding away to nothing as each visitor takes a sheet home.
This is not navel-gazing, nor dry meta-art, though. The work here is beautiful, but Beasley passes a happy discomfort with her chosen media onto the viewer. It is as if we are watching her working, not looking at her work.
