Presented here is a patchwork of referents, representations, and connotations forced together to extract greater and stranger sums. Adapting, evolving, perpetuating, in constant promethean flux, a flux too delicate and gradual to be viewed directly, these objects and images appear as snapshots of mutation, experiments in incongruity. Strands of tragedy, loss, and nostalgia remain as surviving traits, inhabiting the ideas of the work, whether it be Villegas’s realist mash-ups, capturing their own artificial age in the artificial amber of sculptural assimilation, or Reardon’s bodily deconstructions contorting themselves into monuments of arresting hybridity.
