Ideas of chaos and destruction come to mind when looking at these images, reminding us that the unrest in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere is nothing new.. Galerie Emmanuel
Post Leipzig Aqua Art Wynwood Booth 15 42 NE 25th Street Miami, FL 33137 Galerie Emmanuel Post presents a challenging selection of artists mostly based in Leipzig. Their works make use of different forms of realism, are characterized by coherent themes, social contexts, the painterly or (photo)graphic discussion of diction, and a marked presence of the artists's pictorial objectives. Sebastian Gögel's eccentric paintings, drawings and playfully burlesque sculptures address the social themes of order and conflicts. The 'self-portraits' of Juliana Ortiz are depictions of isolated things taken from her everyday surroundings. Her large canvases present immediate renditions with fundamental simplicity; the objects appear in a puzzling narrative or playfully surreal way, estranged from their original functions. Laura Bielau's photographs in b/w and color question the medium as such by using an approach that changes between documentary and subjective photography. The works of Alexander Gutsche offer a diverse, irritating cosmos between painting and photography, ready-made and sculpture. Gutsche's universe combines retention and renaissance in a compelling expressive diversity and a wealth of associations. The existential ties to competing systems are present in personal, pseudoscientific, and political references. Playfully and ironically, Alexander Gutsche succeeds in telling incredible stories in credible ways. Claudia Maier's paintings question our sense of reality's fragility and fabrication. In Sebastian Rug's delicate pencil drawings microscopic and planetary perspectives merge into another suggesting an anonymous sphere beyond mankind. It could be a question of early or remnant forms of a forgotten world, phantoms of natural history, more or less documented in the fragmented records of an imaginary science: a kind of stuctural science - fiction. Hamburg-based Miron Schmückle presents ink drawings on paper. In these a voluptuous, intricate flora unfolds between mimesis and invention. Extravagant and abounding in color, the floral constructions are based on the basic form of the arabesque. These dramatic and ambiguous floral pictorial worlds prove to be a sensuous fascinosum. Schmückle's subtly playful approach is fed by a seemingly scientifically founded representation of nature and individual, artistic-artificial mannerisms. Thus, the curated show will evoke a subtle and surprising interplay of different formal and thematic approaches.
