COMPETITION
NEW CLASSIC NUDE Art Competition - Christiania Arts
Foundation Deadline May 15, 2008
NEW YORK, NY, March
19, 2008 - Kevin Richards, President & CEO of Christiania
Spirits, announced today the launch of the NEW CLASSIC NUDE 2e. Art
Competition, the second installment in a series of art competitions
sponsored by the Christiania Art Foundation (CAF). As a brand,
Christiania Vodka is committed to the world of art, and CAF was
created to promote the work of emerging artists.
For
centuries, the nude has represented the highest achievement in
artistic expression. The goal of the NEW CLASSIC NUDE Art
Competition is to identify and expose today's version of the classic
nude. Based on Christiania Vodka's guiding principle of "purism"
(defined as a single-minded, essential and artisanal passion to do
one thing extremely well) the contest promotes the artistic
expression of this same essential passion. The winning work will be
featured on a prominent billboard in Miami's Wynwood Arts District
(home to many Art Basel Miami Beach events, as well as Miami's
important art gallery colony.)
The NEW CLASSIC NUDE Art
Competition will be overseen and critiqued by a panel of art-world
luminaries and collectors, including Lydia Fenet, auctioneer at
Christie's Auction House; Dennis Leyva, Arts & Entertainment
Liaison for the City of Miami Beach; Anthony Spinelli,
Director/Owner of Spinelli Gallery; Donald McPherson, prominent
Fashion Photographer; Steven Cayre, developer of Midtown Miami and
longtime emerging art patron; Brett O'Bourke, Managing Editor of
flavorpill.net; and world renowned collector Alex Vik (also the
owner of Christiania Spirits, inc).
The CAF will
continue to host this series of art competitions four times a year,
wherein the contest winner's work will be displayed on a prominent
billboard in the arts district of a major city.

EXHIBITION
4th Annual Magnitude SEVEN - Manifest Creative Research
Gallery & Drawing Center, Cincinnati, Ohio An International
Competitive Juried Exhibit of Small Works Deadline April
25th
Small works are very portable and fit well into many
spaces. They also evoke in the viewer a sense of one's own
physicality, in a completely different way than average or large
sized works. Small works are intimate; inviting approach and
inspection. Like short poetry, they are a challenge to craft with
the same presence of their larger counterparts. In the spirit of
Manifest's mission of exploration, we offer this fourth annual call
to artists and designers to submit works no larger than seven inches
in any dimension.

PROPOSALS
2009 Sharjah Biennial , United Arab Emirates
An
unprecedented territory for the propagation of Art in the Middle
East and beyond
Sharjah Biennial launches the
production programme as a vehicle for the realisation of artists'
projects
As a first step for the Sharjah Biennial to
break free from the traditional genealogy of biennials, comes the
announcement of Sharjah Biennial's Production Programme which
develops its relationship with artists and engages them on joint
productions with the biennial in the long term.
The launch
of the Sharjah Biennial Productions Programme is a timely experiment
that will explore the shifting spectrum of creative practice and try
to identify marginal processes of thoughts, relations and acts
arising from art and its vicinities.
This programme is a
natural extension to the Biennial's work in progress, which has so
far charted unprecedented territories for the propagation of art in
the region and beyond, and is determined to remain the artists'
vehicle for the realisation of their projects.
This step
also comes in light of the Sharjah Biennial's endeavor to find new
possibilities for production of art in the Arab world, expand and
facilitate encounters among art practitioners as well as to assist
artists and encourage collaborations with other institutions. The
Biennial envisages its pioneering role as an intellectual hub,
stemming from its long history of dedicated and committed support to
the development of art and the expansion of the horizon of
possibilities and capabilities for productions and presentations.
Its position at the international art circuit cross roads enabled it
to expand on its legacy and promote interaction by periodically
organizing opportunities between artists, producers, curators,
commissioners, sponsors, collectors and museum experts from all
around the world. The Sharjah Biennial will be eventually composing
with every organized encounter, meeting, exhibition and production
the bigger picture of what a biennial ought to be about.
Sharjah Biennial aims not to pose as the locus of your
dreams but to adapt rather, to your dream of a
locus.
Empowered by this vision, the Sharjah Biennial is
reaching out to all artists and non-artists to submit their ideas
and proposals, and collectively venture on joint production projects
with the biennial slated for its coming ninth edition in March
2009.

About the Sharjah
Biennial The Sharjah Biennial is one of the most
celebrated cultural events in the Arab world. Since its inception in
1993, it has formed a cultural bridge between artists, art
institutions and organisations locally, regionally and
internationally. Produced by the Department of Culture and
Information in the Emirate of Sharjah, the Biennial now occupies a
key regional position in the production and presentation of art and
in fostering experimentation.
The Sharjah Biennial's track
record clearly indicates its defining role as one of the few art
institutions in the region leading a programme of support for
artists' productions, and offering access to their presentation and
actively assisting in their dissemination. This support, in light of
the current developments in art and the incessant pursuit to define
and re-define the role of the now indefatigably mushrooming
biennials all over the world, needs to be sensibly extended to
artists operating in the region (where support plays a vital role in
the development and sustainability of a budding yet vibrant art
movement). It also needs to reach those working in other parts of
the world, who do not necessarily need the Biennial's support, but
can positively contribute to the crucial dialogue among artists and
practitioners, and the sharing of experiences in the progress of
knowledge.
The ninth edition of the Sharjah Biennial can be
seen as a laboratory within which undistracted experimentation,
investigation and liberated manifestations are tried out. It is
where experience and knowledge are tested against new realities and
challenged by certainties and uncertainties. The Sharjah Biennial's
role will be gauged by its contribution towards empowering
individuals (artists and non-artists) and initiatives to pursue
their creative work undisrupted by the market and other pressures.
The Sharjah Biennial has launched several initiatives that
attempts to solidify its relationship with artists and art
organizations, engaging them on joint productions with the biennial
and long term collaborations; The Sharjah Biennial Production
Programme, the March Meeting, and the Artist-in-Residence Programme.

RESIDENCY
Patricia Low Contemporary, La Maison Jaune Residency
Program, Gstaad, Switzerland Deadline is April 30,
2008
LA MAISON JAUNE is a residency program initiated in
2007 by PATRICIA
LOW CONTEMPORARY, Gstaad, Switzerland. In a hamlet not far from
where Balthus has lived and worked all his life, artists will be
hosted in a beautiful 18th century chalet called "La Maison Jaune".
There, facing the mountains, we hope they will find inspiration and
renew Gstaad's link with the great artists of our time.
The
MAISON JAUNE residency program provides living and working
opportunities for emerging international artists in all media of the
visual arts (e.g. painting, sculpture, photography, performance, new
media). The fellowship includes production costs up to CHF 3.000 per
artist upon request.
The chalet which is located 10 minutes
outside of Gstaad offers generous living spaces and working
facilities for 3 artists at a time. The studio is next to the chalet
in a barn. Artists are generally invited for a period of 4-6 weeks.
The work created there will be exhibited in a show at the gallery or
at La Maison Jaune shortly thereafter. Also, in an effort to record
this unique artistic process, a book will be developed with a
renowned publisher.
Applications: The program is
dedicated to international artists up to 35 years old or artists who
have completed their university or college degree within the past
five years (and are not currently enrolled).
We are now
inviting artists to apply for monthly residencies in Gstaad for the
period between September 2008 and August 2009. The deadline is April
30, 2008. Late applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
A small jury consisting of the gallery owner Patricia Low, and
internationally renowned curators, museums directors and collectors
will select the fellows.
The online application has to
include a complete artistic portfolio, that is, a CV, images of
works produced in the past five years (not more than 20) and a
letter of intent (one page max.).
Please send the requested
material to residency@patricialow.com
The program is curated
