The Fundacion Guasch Coranty is a private
foundation run by a board of trustees from the University of
Barcelona, concretely the rector, the dean and the secretary of the
Faculty of Fine Arts. The purpose of the foundation is to
grant annual scholarships for artistic creation in the distinct
fields and aimed at the students of the faculty of Fine Arts of the
University of Barcelona. Moreover, in the near future there are
plans to organize an international painting prize. This vocation of
supporting and encouraging students of fine arts was born out of the
enthusiastic dedication to art, heritage and to culture of the
husband and wife partnership of Francesc Guasch -painter, critic and
museum technician- and Emília Coranty -painter and teacher- who in
their will in 1929 bequeathed their estate to the Official School of
Arts and Artistic Trades and Fine Arts of Barcelona, which today has
become the Fine Arts
Faculty.

ArtSway
is the contemporary visual arts venue in the New Forest, Hampshire.
ArtSway supports the development, display and distribution of new
work by artists, and offers creative educational opportunities for
audiences. ArtSway is one of the first National Lottery capital
projects, funded through Arts Council England. The gallery was
designed by architect Tony Fretton (Camden Arts Centre, Lisson
Gallery, Quay Arts) and opened in 1997. Almost unique in the UK as a
dedicated white space for the visual arts in a rural environment,
ArtSway has developed a reputation for innovative exhibitions, such
as the New Forest Pavilion at the 2005
After the continuing
success of ArtSway Open06 there is once more no theme to this year's
Open Exhibition at ArtSway, again reflecting our response to
artists' concerns regarding the restrictiveness of a themed brief.
ArtSway's aim is to select work that reflects the plurality of
current artistic practices, and to produce an exhibition that can be
enjoyed by audiences from the South of England and across the UK.
Artists are encouraged to submit work that reflects their current
practice. There are no restrictions on content, or media used to
produce work. The selectors will be looking for works that have a
contemporary feel, which reflect contemporary themes and concerns,
as well as works that are produced using traditional themes and
methods. For more information call Peter Bonnell on: 01590 682260,

PUBLIC ART
Pedestrian Underpass Commission, Wales, UK Deadline for
applications: Friday 26 October 2007
Halton Borough
Council wishes to commission an artist to transform one or more
pedestrian underpasses on the Castlefields Estate in Runcorn. The
commission is part of substantial redevelopment work being
undertaken by Halton Borough Council and precedes the completion of
a Public Art Strategy being developed by Public Art Wales for
Castlefields. The commission's success will be crucial to the
implementation of future public arts involvement in Castlefields.
Background Redevelopment work in Castlefields is
significant and has to date included the creation of Phoenix Park -
an award winning and very successful community resource with a wide
range of facilities. The regeneration also includes a major scheme
to re- house residents in newly built homes, replacing existing
high-rises associated with problems in the area. Another major
element is the creation of a new 'village square' through the
complete demolition and rebuild of the existing dilapidated centre.
This ambitious project includes a complete remodeling of the
immediate area, incorporating a new community centre, health centre
and retail units with integral residential flats. The square will
also include a significant public space.
As part of the
redevelopment work, the Regeneration Team is conducting an ongoing
consultation programme, to ensure that the local community is fully
aware of, and feels able to influence the changes being made. All
artwork commissions undertaken on Castlefields will be conducted
within this ethos of community consultation.
Castlefields
lies centrally between two important physical and cultural
landmarks, Halton Castle and Norton Priory - both accessible to the
community via footpaths. Castlefields has some fine landscape
features by way of the Bridgewater Canal and the Town Lake, and
green spaces in outlying areas of Phoenix Park, some of which are to
be developed as conservation wetland areas. Others are allocated as
areas for private housing development.
The
Commission This early opportunity for a commission has been
identified for an experienced and ambitious artist to transform one
or more pedestrian underpasses on the Estate. The underpasses
provide key pedestrian access around Castlefields, and the
commission will require intensive community consultation by way of
arts led workshops and conversations with various groups.
The
underpass that is being prioritised for this commission is the
'Plantation Close Subway', which leads pedestrians from the
residential areas of Castlefields into Phoenix Park. Although it is
structurally sound and in a good state of repair, the subway is
subject to graffiti and local residents have said that they feel
vulnerable when using it.
The internal measurements of the
subway are approximately 13metres from one end to the other, 3.5
metres wide and 2.5m high. There is some low-level lighting via 4
small light boxes, and the floor surface is fairly new coloured
asphalt. The exterior of the subway has a distinctive and rather
dated 1970's appearance. The appointed artist will be expected to
take both the interior and exterior of the subway into consideration
in developing his or her proposal(s).
Halton Borough Council
has expressed a view that if the budget allows, a second subway art
commission should be progressed as part of this project. The second
one would be the 'Woodland Walk Subway'.
All artforms will
be considered at this stage, though it is likely that artwork(s)
incorporating some form of lighting would be suitable for the
interior space. The commission budget is in the region of £23,000
plus community consultation fees (see below).
Procedure Four artists will be short-listed and
invited for interview, which will include a site visit to the two
sites. (Travel expenses will be paid). The selected artist will be
required to carry out 10 days community consultation for which there
is a fee of £1,750, and small materials and subsistence allowance.
Following this, the design phase will allow the artist to develop
detailed design proposals that will be presented to the Project
Steering Group for approval. This will include working up a full
budget for the commission, sourcing materials and drawing up designs
in PowerPoint, maquette or other accepted format. The fee for the
Design Stage is in the region of £5,000.
On agreement of the
designs a commission contract will be offered to the artist.
Interviews are likely to take place on Monday 26th November
2007.
To Apply: To apply for this project, please
send: No more than 8 images of previous work with a descriptive
list. Accepted formats include 35 mm slides or a CD with images
in a standard format (PowerPoint, JPG's up to 300 dpi)

Since 1982, Atlantic
Center's residency program has provided artists from all artistic
disciplines with spaces to live, work, and collaborate during three-
week residencies. Located just four miles from the east coast
beaches of central Florida, the pine and palmetto wooded environment
contains award- winning studios that include a resource library,
painting studio, sculpture studio, music studio, dance studio, black
box theater, writers' studio, and digital computer lab. Each
residency session includes three master artists of different
disciplines. The master artists each personally select a group of
associates - talented, emerging artists - through an application
process administered by ACA.
During the residency, artists
participate in informal sessions with their group, collaborate on
projects, and work independently on their own projects. The relaxed
atmosphere and unstructured program provide considerable time for
artistic regeneration and creation. Atlantic Center for the Arts
provides housing (private room/bath with work desk), weekday meals
(provided by ACA chef) and 24 hour access to shared studio space.
Financial Aid is available to qualified applicants.
