The First Competition : This Urgent Moment An Open Call for New Art & Design

Our time is marked by major advances (and regressions) in art, technology, politics, science and culture.
Historically, such urgent moments have resulted in art and design that bring permanent evolutions to our aesthetic language.

We are looking for art of any medium that has the bite and blood to match the energy of our era.

You have until September 21st to submit your work through our website. We will feature the best submissions online and in a year-end publication titled: The Annual.

One artist will win the ultimate prize: a solo-show in New York City, a $2,007 grant, an art-star reception and full membership to the 3rd Ward artist workspace. This is your moment to be discovered. Details can be found HERE

The Renegade Art Competition : Art Ate New York A Call for New York City Guerilla Art

We announced this competition a couple weeks ago, and received such a huge response we had to make it bigger. Several sponsors have signed on adding to the art- star prize package and the showcase event will take place at the opening of a new gallery at Thompson and Broome in Manhattan.

What We Want:
Public work that consumes this town. Create something profound, public and just left-of-legal and you will have a chance of winning loot/fame. We are looking for renegade sculpture, poster-work, performance, spray-can-art or anything else we haven't thought of. It must be publicly placed.

You get points for aesthetic, placement, ambition and over-all brilliance. Document your work with photos or video and submit it to us by September 21st. The best entries will be featured online. The chosen one will be famous.

Your work will be judged by:
iO of Overspray Magazine Chris Hackett of The Madagascar Institute William Etundi of TheDanger Garrison Buxton and Ray Cross of Ad-Hoc Arts Jason Goodman of 3rd Ward Brooklyn.

The Prize:
The winner gets an artstar reception at a Manhattan gallery, a major feature in the yearly publication The Annual, three months supply of Redbull to fuel your art, a subscription to Overspray Magazine, a three month membership to 3rd Ward and a trophy so heavy and fabulous that you will need three friends to help you carry it home.

The Event:
The best entries will be shown at a party/exhibition Friday, October 19th at 40-42 Thompson St., Manhattan. The full event details will be released in October but expect massive art projections, Red Bull Martini bar, DJ's and bands and a wild awards ceremony all hosted by TheDanger.

For full details look HERE

We have a few more tricks up our sleeve. Expect more big news from Artists Wanted in the coming weeks...

GRANT
Urban Artist Initiative for NYC artists of color, New York, NY
Deadline September 26, 2007

TheBronx Council on the Arts and the Urban Artist Initiative/ New York City (UAI/NYC) announce the second application cycle of a new grants program for NYC individual artists of color.

In the groundbreaking first cycle of the UAI/NYC grant program in 2006, 90 artist grants were awarded towards the development of artists' projects in the range of $250 -$2,500 for a total of $125,000.

This year, with major support provided by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, this initiative marks the second year of a cross-discipline grant program developed specially for artists who self-identify their heritage as African, Latino, Asian, or Native American, embracing as well the diversity that exists within communities of color. Fellowships of $2,000 each will be available to individual artists for their artistic and professional development.

UAI/NYC has been developed by a consortium including the Asian American Arts Alliance, the Association of Hispanic Arts, the Harlem Arts Alliance, the Queens Council on the Arts, and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, working in partnership with the New York Foundation for the Arts and the BronxCouncil on the Arts.

The deadline for application submission is September 26, 2007. The online application is available HERE or by going to the website of any of consortium members. Applications should be submitted online.

A series of application seminars has been scheduled throughout the city by the consortium members as well as the Brooklyn Arts Council, the Council for the Arts and Humanities of Staten Island, and the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance to answer questions about eligibility and the application process. Artists interested in applying are encouraged to attend (see application seminar schedule below).

Four panels in Literature, Performing Arts, Media, and Visual/Interdisciplinary work will review applications and support materials. Applications are available online through the websites of the participating organizations.

UAI/NYC is part of a national effort to strengthen the infrastructure and support for artists throughout the country; it is one of the Creative Communities programs of LINC (LeveragingInvestments in Creativity), a national network of cities which serves as a laboratory for projects effecting local and national change in the lives of artists.

UAI/NYC is one of the major projects of the Creative Communities' program specifically addressing artists' of color. Besides its major support from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, UAI/NYC has been supported with funds provided by LINC via the Ford Foundation, the Buddy Fund for Justice of the Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and the Booth Ferris Foundation.

UAI/NYC, a unique collaboration of seven arts intermediaries, creates a point of entry for artists from their specific communities, some of whom have not traditionally participated in grant and service programs for artists. Because the organizations are working as one entity, an even more powerful alliance is being shaped to include and recognize the contributions and talents of so many previously under-recognized artists.

It provides an important mechanism to begin to bring greater attention to the individual and collective needs of artists of color.
