BURSARY

Since 1999, camac art centre in conjunction with the Unesco Aschberg Bursaries have given each year a residency bursary to one visual artist and one writer in order to create new career prospects for artists.

Unesco-aschberg Bursaries have now been suspended for 2007, but the Ténot Fondation have decided to offer a similar bursary for a residency at camac for this year.

Camac is located 60min away from Paris in the village of Marnay sur Seine within the scenic Region of Champagne-Ardenne. This multi-disciplinary creative centre offers a unique environment for scientists and technologists. Camac aims at fostering communication and creativity among individuals and groups working on the evolution of ideas or realization of works.

Nature of the bursary :
2 months residency (dates to be arranged by mutual agreement between the artist and the institution) Return ticket, board and lodging Private bedroom with bathroom, individual studio. The laureate must provide his/her own visas and health insurance.

Visual arts : Eligibility :
Professional artists of established ability. The candidate must be motivated and open to discussion on contemporary art practice and the challenge of visual arts. He/she will be willing to conduct workshops or make a presentation of his/her work to the public. Working knowledge of French, English or Spanish required. The selection of applicants will be based on project proposals. The recipient will be requested to contribute one of his works to camac's permanent collection.

Send a filled-out application form to be found on camac's website with the mention "Fondation Ténot Bursary" directly to camac together with the following documents :

  • a curriculum vitae
  • a recent photograph
  • a project proposal for the residency period (3 - 5 pages + visuals)
  • two testimonials
  • 10 mounted slides, photos or CD of recent work and other supporting materials such as press articles, catalogues, etc.
Please note that applications and accompanying material will not be returned unless a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage is included in your initial application package. Electronic mail applications will not be accepted.

SURFACE 2007 - London Printworks Trust's Bursary Scheme

12 month residency offered to artists who have graduated from a UK-based MA course in 2006 or 2007. Bursary offered of £2,500. Printworks is particularly interested in applications from Artists from Black and Minority Ethnic communities and disabled artists who are currently under-represented in contemporary visual arts and crafts practice AND Artists who have never worked in printed textiles before, but are interested in developing their work by exploring the creative possibilities of printed textiles.

PROGRAMME AIMS
  • To support the creative and professional development of artists, makers and designers, particularly recent graduates.
  • To recognise, support and promote innovation and excellence in the field of printed textiles and contemporary art, design and craft.
  • To raise the profile of the selected artist, experimental contemporary textiles and London Printworks Trust to a wider public.
AWARD
  • The award will be in the form of a 12 month residency at London Printworks Trust in Brixton, south London.

The Photographic Portrait Prize 2007, National Portrait Gallery, London

The National Portait Gallery's prestigious international photographic portrait competition celebrates and promotes the very best in contempory portrait photography through a competition that is open to all. It has established a reputation for its diversity of photographic styles, encompassing editorial, advertising and fine art images submitted by a range of photographers, from professionals to gifted amateurs and photography students.

Photographers are invited to enter the National Portrait Gallery's Photographic Portrait Prize 2007. Register online between 1 May and 20 July 2007: you will receive an email confirming your registration number. Photographs must be delivered to London College of Communication (address below) either in person or by post/courier between 23 and 27 July 2007. Online registration will ensure a quicker, more efficient, check-in when delivering photographs.

Diesel New Art, DNA

Diesel New Art, DNA, started out as an experiment initiated by up&coming artists in Sweden 5 years ago. Since then Norway, Denmark, Austria and Slovenia - no less - have joined. This year it is an International competition with 17 countries joining - amongst them the US, Canada, most of Europe, China and Japan.

Submission categories are Action, Digital, Draw and Photo, and the competition is open until June 30th at / DNA Competition

The International Winner will receive 10.000 Euro towards exhibiting their artwork at an international art event towards the end of 2007. We're currently planning for it to be at Art Basel Miami Beach, 6-9 Dec.

The DNA'07 jury consists of Amy Stewart (curator, New York), David Elliot (Director, Istanbul Modern), Penny Martin (Editor, SHOWstudio) and Wilbert Das (Creative Director, Diesel).

Cubitt is an artist-run studios and gallery in Angel, Islington, which was established in the early 1990s. Cubitt gallery has been funded by the Arts Council since 2001, and provides an 18-month bursary for an independent curator. As an ambitious organisation Cubitt aims to consistently review and renew its purpose, through the curatorial bursary, the commitment of its members and an ongoing dialogue with its diverse audience. The successful candidate will play a key role in Cubitt's development.

FELLOWSHIP
Wheatley Bequest Fine Art - Painting, Birmingham, UK

Painting Fellowship for artists either at the beginning or at a critical point in their professional career. A studio and access to all school facilities provided. Fellowship lasts ten months and culminates in an exhibition.

Each year we are able to offer a £9,000 fellowship for an artist/s to work in an on-site studio in the Margaret Street building. The Fellow works on the development of their practice through the year and presents the results in September as part of the MA Fine Art final exhibition. Throughout their tenure they will interact with students in a number of ways: through direct individual or group tutorials, seminars, workshops, projects, or involving students to work with them on an exhibition etc. The Wheatley Fellowship, made possible through the generous bequest of the Wheatley family. It is now into its ninth year.

John Wood and Paul Harrison, the current holders of the post, work collaboratively and are represented by FA Projects, a London based gallery next to the Tate Modern. They are currently working on a retrospective exhibition taking place in Tokyo in 2007.

LiveBox has been asked to curate media arts for the Around The Coyote Festival this October. The Festival expects 10,000 visitors this year.

The Festival and Gallery are undergoing exciting changes under the new directorship of Allison Stites, previously the director of Franklin Parrasch Gallery in Midtown (a contemporary sculpture gallery) and then head curator of 65 Hope Street Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The Festivals film and video screenings have always been popular, but this year's vision is far more ambitious. The Festival has acquired a large building to house video and new media installations, a screening space and a video lounge. The commitment to media is truly exciting.

We are looking for video and new media proposals as well as film and video for screenings. Submissions must be recieved by July 1st. Format: Please send a CD with resume, statement, short synopsis of the work, and jpg images. Video should be NTSC DVD, if your piece is in PAL, please send mini DV tape. Label DVD and case with title, running time and contact info. Note materials will not be returned, unless specifically requested.

Les Inattendus, (very) independent cinema and video festival, Lyon, France.

Les Inattendus non-competitive film festival exhibits artistically independent film and video work.

There is no set theme and no limitations on length, genre, or format. Film and video, individual and collective works, workshop and school productions, documentaries, experimental, narrative, video-art, animation..... are all welcome.

Given the profusion of short narrative films sent for selection, we would like to point out that fiction films entered this year should be of a resolutely experimental nature.

Each day brings news of another environmental crisis be it the impending shortage of potable water, global warming or the rapid extinction of another species of animal or plant. In Fall of 2007, Exit Art will launch S.E.A. (Social-Environmental-Aesthetics) a new program committed to presenting artistic visions that suggest solutions or envision new possibilities to this environmental crisis; art with a purpose.

E.P.A. (Environmental Performance Actions) - the first exhibition project of S.E.A. - will present documentation of environmental performances and actions in the Exit Underground: a digital video lounge, performance and music space, and a green boat bar. We are looking for documentation - photographs, texts, video and ephemera - from performances that addressed contemporary environmental issues in a substantial way.

EPA is a joint project of Exit Art and Ecoartspace (Amy Lipton and Tricia Watts, Curators)

Opening in autumn 2007, the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art is situated in a 5,000m2 Bauhaus styled factory building in the Dashanzi Art District in Beijing. Aiming to be China's most comprehensive institute for contemporary arts, the Ullens Center plans to engage a wide audience through a variety of activities and facilities: Three exhibition halls will show cutting edge contemporary art from China and around the world; a cultural events programme will engage people with film, music, and dialogue; our contemporary art library will be the only one of its kind in Beijing; and an education programme will bring people into closer contact with the art, the artists, and their ideas.

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art works in conjunction with the Guy & Myriam Ullens Foundation, a vigorous supporter of Chinese artistic practice that boasts of one of the largest collections of Chinese contemporary art in the world.

Few programs exist either on the national or international level where the sole mission is to support the creativity of artists. From the beginning, the art-making process has been the highest priority at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, where both the atmosphere and environment offer ideal situations for creative growth and experimentation. We address the practical aspects of this mission by providing well-equipped studio spaces, living accommodations and monthly stipends. Located in two urban warehouses totaling 110,000 square feet, our facilities are designed to foster creativity and the productive exchange of ideas. Artists from around the world come to the Bemis Center to work in this supportive community and confront new challenges.
