EXHIBTION
Magnitude 7, Manifest, Cincinnati, Ohio An
International Juried Exhibition of Small Artworks
Postmark
Deadline for Entry: May 2nd (Online Deadline: May
4th)
Small works are very portable and fit well
into many spaces. They also evoke in the viewer a sense of one's own
physicality, in a completely different way than average or large
sized works. Small works are intimate; inviting approach and
inspection. Like short poetry, they are a challenge to craft with
the same presence of their larger counterparts. In the spirit of
Manifest's mission of exploration, we are offering this third annual
call to artists and designers to submit works no larger than
seven inches in any dimension (any proportion).
Standard
presentation devices such as mats and frames that are not considered
part of the work of art are not limited by the 7" criteria.
Magnitude SEVEN will run from June 8 through July 6, 2007 and
will occupy Manifest's Main Gallery and Drawing
Room.
Eligibility: Magnitude SEVEN is open to
everyone. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter.
The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of
art or design. This exhibit is open to all traditional and
non-traditional genre and media, including but not limited to:
drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking,
installation, video, etc.
Catalog: Manifest will
produce a full-color catalog documenting the work in Magnitude
SEVEN. Exhibitors will receive a 50% discount on one copy of the
catalog. For
examples of past catalogs
Delivery and Return of
Work: All work accepted for the exhibition must arrive ready to
install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good
craftsmanship, will be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted work that
differs significantly from the entry images or suffers from
substandard presentation, will be disqualified. Work may be hand
delivered or shipped. Shipped works must be sent in a reusable
container with return shipping prepaid. Works will be returned in
the same manner as delivered (or by UPS/USPS). All work must arrive
at Manifest by June 5th. Accepted work will remain on display for
the duration of the exhibition. Hand delivered work must be picked
up between noon and 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 5th.
Entry
Fee: Each work submitted must be accompanied by a $10
non-n-refundable entry fee. Number of entries is unlimited. Entry
fee must be paid by check or money order made payable to MANIFEST,
or by credit card via PayPal. (A PayPal link will be provided upon
submission of the online entry form, if paying by payal please use
this link only).
Sale of Work: All work, unless
indicated as not for sale (NFS), will be available for sale during
exhibit. Manifest Gallery will retain a commission of 30% on all
artwork sold during the exhibition.
Images: Entrants
can choose to submit artwork in either slide or digital format,
however digital submissions are preferred along with online entry
forms. The quality of the image will affect the judging. Detail
images may be included at no additional cost and should be marked as
such. Manifest Gallery will retain the submitted images of accepted
artwork and reserves the right to use the images in publications and
gallery publicity. CD's and slides of works not selected will only
be returned if accompanied by an appropriately sized SASE.
Slide Format: 2" by 2" 35 mm slides. Each slide must
be clearly marked on the front with the following information: Slide
number corresponding to its description on the entry form, the
artist's name, title of the artwork, and an arrow indicating the top
of the slide.
Digital Format: Digital images can be
submitted on CD or by e-mail (mail to: show@manifestgallery.org).
Hi-Res, print-quality images will be requested for accepted works
upon conclusion of the jury process. If suitable images are not
provided, the work will not be included in the catalog.
To
send via email: The email should include the artist's full name
as subject along with 'Magnitude SEVEN submission.' The images must
meet the following specifications: File names = artist's last
name followed by the entry number as noted on the entry form (i.e.
Jones1.jpg). The image files should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG
format or better, images should be no smaller than 1000 pixels in
any direction and at least 72dpi. Images must be oriented properly

FELLOWSHIP
Photo Urbanism Fellowship : Design Trust for Public Space,
New York, NY Application Deadline: postmarked May 1, 2007
Photography plays an integral role in the examination,
discussion, and re-imagining of New York City's public spaces. Photo
Urbanism supports this role by offering photography fellowships to
document the city's natural and built environment. At least five
distinct photographic essays---produced sequentially and each
focusing on a different aspect of New York City's public
realm---will catalog the city's evolving character. All work will be
published collectively at the program's conclusion.
The
fellowship award is $5,000 and the fellowship is carried out over
one year. Throughout this year, the photographer will maintain a
self-directed work schedule, meeting with the Design Trust to review
completed work at scheduled meetings. Fellowships conclude with a
public exhibition. The most recent Photo Urbanism exhibition is now
on view at the Museum of the City of New York, through April 23.
Previous fellows and projects include Len Jenshel and Diane Cook,
"The Edge of New York", 2002; Jonathan Smith, "The Bridge Project",
2004; and Travis Roozée, "Portrait of Jamaica Bay", 2006.
Applicants should be based in New York City in order
to fulfill their one-year project commitment, meet regularly with
the Design Trust, and concentrate on the project’s specific local
content. Students are not eligible for the fellowship. To

must be received by mail between May 1 and May 15, 2007.
Toby
Jurovics, Curator of Photography, Smithsonian American Art Museum,
Washington, DC, will be the juror for the 2007 Photo Review
Photography Competition. The Photo Review, a highly acclaimed
critical journal of photography, is sponsoring its 23rd annual
photography competition with a difference. Instead of only
installing an exhibit that would be seen by a limited number of
people, The Photo Review will reproduce accepted entries in its 2007
competition issue. Thus, the accepted photographs will be seen by
thousands of people all across the country and entrants will have a
tangible benefit from the competition.
Also, the
prize-winning photographers will be chosen for an exhibition at the
photography gallery of The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and
will be exhibited on The Photo Review’s website.
Because
their work was seen in The Photo Review, past winners have been
given one-person exhibitions, have had their work reproduced in
other leading photography magazines like DoubleTake, and have sold
their work to collectors throughout the country.
Awards
include a Microtek ScanMaker i800 scanner with the ColoRescue system
for automatic one-touch photo restoration and a 8x12" transparency
