FILM & VIDEO
Studio 27 : State of Exception, San Francisco,
CA
Deadline : June 30, 2006
Studio 27, a micro-cinema showcasing experimental
media in the San Francisco Bay Area, is looking for
recent short videos and films. Our next screening, in
July, takes its title and theme from the book State of
Exception by Georgio Agamben. Agamben describes a
political condition that has a compelling contemporary
resonance in the United States. In states of siege or
war, governmental institutions have justified the
suspension of civil law, arguing that the higher law of
sustaining the state’s well-being requires that certain
civil liberties be withheld. We are interested in
showing documentary and experimental media that
responds to this condition, or that opens a dialogue
for discussing the necessity or consequences of the
current administration’s direction. We welcome work
from all sides of the political spectrum.
Possible themes might include: human rights and
responsibilities, conditions of crisis that are under-
represented, the impact of terrorism on everyday life,
subversive action and celebration, the degradation of
basic civil liberties, the resurgence of racism and
discrimination, nationalism and xenophobia, $ymbols
for a better tomorrow, new techniques for keeping
the public anxious or apathetic, how enhanced
surveillance technologies are eroding our privacy,
immigration and alienation, and incarceration without
due process.
For more information on our ongoing quarterly series
visit www.studio27.org
We will accept work under 30 minutes in length on
data DVDs (as a Quicktime movie file, especially for
digital animations), playable DVDs (all region), or
MiniDVs (ntsc).
Include with your submission a brief written
description of the work, and a short filmmaker bio.
Also include a SASE if you would like your materials
returned to you (only U.S. mail will be returned).

Shanghai Duolun MoMA Residency Program Sring
2007
The Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art is the
first publicly funded contemporary art museum in
mainland China. In keeping with its mission to support
contemporary art and artists, the Duolun MoMA offers
an international artist-in-residence program. This
program brings artists from around the world to the
Duolun MoMA to work on individual or collaborative
projects proposed by the artists themselves. It is
intended to foster personal vision by offering a unique
opportunity for working professional artists at all
stages of their careers to expand their art and
experience by making contact with Chinese and other
international artists while working in the dynamic
environment that the city of Shanghai and the Duolun
MoMA provide.
The residence program operates on an open studio
policy, thereby promoting interaction between the
resident artist and the Chinese public. During the
residency, artists will be asked to run a workshop for
the public concerning their project at the Duolun
MoMA. Resident artists are given the opportunity to
exhibit the successful completion of their project in
the Duolun MoMA galleries as the culmination of their

STUDIO
Sublet : DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY
I am looking for someone who wants to sublet my
artist studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY for the summer. I
am planning to go to Berlin for 2 months - July and
August. But I am flexible if someone needs the studio
earlier or longer. Just let me know.
My studio is 250 sq', has high ceilings and no direct
sun light (but if you exit my door and look around the
corner....there it is...the light, I mean). I also have
parts of the hallway (place to store materials/ there
is cooking and refrigerator). Also, I have a loft area
with lots of space for storage.....1/2 filled with my
boxes). All together my space is 450sq'. But as I said
the actual work space/room is 250sq'. My walls are all
painted white and the floor is grey - quite a neat
studio space. I am sharing the space with a
wonderful and very friendly and generous person,
Patrick, who is a carpenter and has his little shop in
the front of the space. Both of our spaces are
separated and private.
The studio is located in the legendary 68 Jay Street
building in Dumbo, Brooklyn....... a tall, well-known
building full of artist and small businesses. Dumbo in
general is full of artist and every curator, gallery
person in NY knows that area and it is very easy to
get to (very close to Manhattan and A/C train as well
as F train around the corner and lunch break at the
East River.....great!). It is really a fantastic area to
be in - sunbathing at the river side, local bars where
all artists hang out, view over to Manhattan,
everything close by bike, studio visits here are very
common, everyone knows it,....
My rent is $580 per month everything included.
I am also looking for a place in Berlin...living
and working space. If possible maybe even for two
(two Germans want to go back to get familiar with
their own country again). We would need a space to
sleep and to work for the month of July and August.
And any contact is very welcome, too.
