AWARD
The Mark Tanner Sculpture Award 2010
Deadline : 31 May, 2009
The Mark Tanner Sculpture Award is now the largest sculpture prize of its kind in the UK. It is unique in its combination of offering both financial support towards the production of new work and a solo exhibition to an exceptional emerging sculptor. Originated in 2001, The Tanner award increased to a total of £10,000 in 2005. £6,000 goes direct to the receiving artist towards the production of new work, and £4,000 funds and promotes the solo exhibition held at Standpoint Gallery the following year.

Baume & Mercier International Award, Rome
Deadline : 16 April, 2009
Based on a photographic form of expression, the creation of the project can be presented with printed images, videos and installations. The winner will present the project at the next Rome Photography Festival in 2010. The Theme for 2009 is: "Declinations of Joy: visions and portrayals".

The TippingPoint Commissions

The TippingPoint Commissions are a new initiative for professional artists who wish to create new performance work in the context of climate change. The theme of climate change is intended to provide a stimulus and a springboard for the commissions. Artists are invited to submit projects that stimulate audiences towards the radical and imaginative thinking necessary to comprehend a world dominated by climate change. We are not looking for a didactic exposition of the subject. Rather, we are seeking proposals that offer creative reflections on a world that is rapidly changing and on humanity's role and responsibilities within it

Art-o-thlon, International Championship of Arts, Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania

Art-o-thlon is a multiplatform set of creative and academic events scheduled for July-August in Vilnius, Lithuania and is envisioned as one of the preeminent projects of the European School of Arts as part of the Vilnius - European Capital of Culture 2009 programme. The purpose of this call is to invite young artists from all across Europe to come to Vilnius to participate in celebration of the arts. The format of this event is reminiscent of the Olympiad-teams of artists will be competing with other teams for the top prize.

SUMMER SESSION 101 : DAM , STUHLTRAGER GALLERY, Brooklyn, NY

SUMMER SESSION 101 explores what happens when a gallery directs funds away from exorbitant presentation and into artists themselves. In SUMMER SESSION 101, two artists selected from an open call will be given the Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery to use as studio space for two months. The artists' creation process and progression towards a finished work will be the gallery exhibit. In addition to exposure to the general public during the gallery's regular business hours, the artists will also have 5 different VIP guest "visits" from professionals who have achieved success and have insight into what no one ever learns in school.

According to linguists, the Indo-germanic word 'ghia' was an onomatopoetic reproduction of yawning. The greek meaning of the word 'chaos' deriving from 'ghia' can then be understood as a paraphrase for 'the great yawning of the world'. Nowadays, the semantic field of the term ranges from deterministic calculations of chaos to the description of complex, confused or opaque conditions and behavior.

The Foundation Marcelino Botín awards 220.000 euros for Visual Arts Grants for study, research and the undertaking of individual projects in the sphere of (non-theoretical) artistic work. Artists may be any nationality. Applicants for study grants must be between 23 and 40 years old. There is no age limit for the research grants.
