Rhizome Commissions 2010

Rhizome is pleased to announce that the 2010 Commissions cycle is now open. Founded in 2001, the Rhizome Commissions Program is designed to support emerging artists with financial and institutional resources. In the seventh year of funding for the Program, Rhizome will award grants, with amounts ranging from $1000 to $5000, for the creation of significant works of new media art.

Organized by APT, uniquely this competition involves two selections from the entire body of work submitted and thus two contrasting exhibitions will be shown at the APT Gallery on Creekside, Deptford in May and June 2009. This year the two selectors are Jenni Lomax and Mark Wallinger.

DAIWA FOUNDATION ART PRIZE 2009

The Daiwa Foundation Art Prize is an original project that offers a British artist a first solo show in Japan. In addition to an exhibition, the winning artist will be given a period of support and introductions to key individuals and organisations in the Japanese contemporary art world. The winning artist will also be awarded a participation fee of £5000.

Anatomy in the Gallery - International Museum of Surgical Science, Chicago, IL

"Anatomy in the Gallery," a rotating exhibition program at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago, showcases medically themed contemporary art within the unique context of the Museum's historical collections and exhibits. The program was begun in 1998 to help fulfill the Museum's mission of enriching its visitors' lives by enhancing their knowledge and understanding of surgery and related sciences. "Anatomy in the Gallery" is currently accepting proposals for its 2010 exhibition calendar.

Center for Contemporary Art Prague - Artwall Gallery : VOX POPULI 2009

Since 2005, the Artwall Gallery has occupied an outstanding outdoor space consisting of eight large stone frames within the wall supporting the Letna Hill on the kpt. Jarose and Edvarda Benese Embankment in the downtown area of Prague. This year's theme, "Vox Populi", is a continuation of the last year's program and was inspired by visually dominant character of the exhibition space that guarantees an efficient and rather authoritative communication with the public.

Like its print counterpart, the video essay is an attempt of personal reflection while engaging with the facts of the world. The video essay, writes Phillip Lopate, "wears proudly the confusion of an independent soul trying to grope in isolation toward truth."Blackbird is seeking video essays between two and ten minutes in. Submissions accepted for publication will be asked for accompanying text, preferably a process statement about your work.

Stipends 2009 - The Foundation of Lower Saxony Media Artist in Residence Programme
Deadline : 28 February 2009

The Foundation of Lower Saxony will award three six-months work stipends (Euro 10.000 each) from July to December 2009 at the Edith-Russ-Site for Media Art in Oldenburg. The announcement is addressed to artists working in New Media. There are no age limitations. Submitted project proposals will be reviewed by an international jury. A minimum residency of one month is required. The artists will be integrated into the institution's activities.
