The Darwin Now awards offer small grants to allow UK based individuals working in the sciences, humanities, arts and media, the opportunity to pursue a stand-alone piece of fieldwork/research outside the UK.

The prizes for a total value of 150 thousand euro, will be distributed to the three competing categories: Terawatt, established artists, Gigawatt and Megawatt, emerging artists, respectively over and under 35.

Total Award: £39,000.
The brief is to create a lasting memorial which celebrates the life of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson for the new Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing of the hospital. The commission is open to any artist working within the UK and offers a challenging opportunity for artists working in any medium such as photography, painting, sculpture, glass or textiles. The commission will be permanent and site specific.

NEXUS/foundation for today's art in Philadelphia, in conjunction with The Hacktory, is seeking submissions for "Unintended Uses," an exhibition of hacked and repurposed materials scheduled for February 12 through March 6, 2009. Artists and makers working with electronics, video, robotics, and other new media, and particularly those who reside on the East Coast, are encouraged to submit work for review.
