Art Cologne 18 - 22 April 2007

-For the first time in spring

In 2007, the world's longest-established fair for modern and contemporary art moves into the spring and will take place at the Cologne exhibition center from 18th to 22nd April.

The field of exhibitors includes many internationally renowned galleries. The exhibitors' stands will present a comprehensive overview of the art of the 20th and 21st centuries - from modernism to the most recent works by contemporary artists. In addition to important works from the post-war period, the exhibitors are increasingly focusing on contemporary art. An integral feature of ART COLOGNE is "Open Space", a curated outdoor sale exhibition area for contemporary art.

HIROYUKI MASUYAMA
Caspar David Friedrich

In his new body of works Hiroyuki Masuyama (*1968 in Tsukuba, Japan) approaches the work of Caspar David Friedrich using the medium of photography. The Japanese concept artist H.M. located the sites painted by Friedrich in the beginning of the 19th century and took several hundred photos of each site. He then combined these hundreds of photos to one mounted image by recreating the paintings in every detail, giving special attention to the pictorial atmosphere. Then the works were produced as lightboxes in the size of the original paintings. The Caspar David Friedrich series is an investigation about the work of the 19th century painter who is said to be the inventor of German romanticism. It is an approach for a better understanding of the German romantic soul.

Tease Art Fair Tease Art Fair, Cologne 19 - 22 April 2007

RheinTriadem at the Main Station

The Tease Art Fair aims to establish a forum for cutting-edge, contemporary art ranging from to the programmatic to the experimental in the Rhine-Ruhr region, both for those interested in art in general as well as curators, exhibition and other art event organisers, gallery owners and art mediators.

Tease will fill a gap in the Rhine region's prestigious art fair calender, in terms of when it is held as well as geographically.

Instead of presenting new works by established artists, this event will provide opportunities to discover new artists with work that is rarely shown in a conventional art fair context.

The competition is aimed at new galleries, artist-run spaces, local art societies, projects, curators, artists' groups as well as individual artists. Each contribution to the Tease Art Fair should reflect the participating exhibitor's intentions and focus. The idea is to provide a forum for art that is rarely shown in such a context, works of the highest quality.

KolnShow2 European Kunsthalle presents KölnShow 2

Only a few weeks after the opening of its first exhibition "Models for Tomorrow: Cologne" the European Kunsthalle puts a new event on the agenda: the "KölnShow2". In March and April various locations in downtown Cologne were used as exhibition spaces by the platform for contemporary art still in its founding phase. The second large-scale exhibition project goes for networking with the long-established Cologne gallery scene:

18 selected galleries will make space available for the programme of founding director Nicolas Schafhausen - who is also director of the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam and curator of the German pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale - and guest curator Florian Waldvogel, Witte de With Center. 22 young artists from 12 different nations, whose work has to date rarely been shown in Germany, take up the challenge of meeting the full title of the exhibition:

"..what will be told of today tomorrow: KölnShow2".

dc duesseldorf contemporary

The market for contemporary art is booming, and the Rhineland has a large share in it as a worldwide renowned art location with a high density of collectors. The provincial capital Duesseldorf is particularly noticeable as an art-metropolis. The Duesseldorf art landscape comprises almost all elements of a working marketing chain for fine arts, with institutions like the K20 and K21, the Museum Kunst Palast, the Kunsthalle, the Duesseldorf Art Academy, and a multiplicity of studios and renowned galleries. The fair dc duesseldorf contemporary will fill the missing link in the market place.

Through the conscious limitation to 85 exclusive galleries, the dc duesseldorf contemporary satisfies another market requirement: a world-class spring fair in the Rhineland.
