ReMap
2 is an international open platform of contemporary art
running parallel to the 2nd Athens Biennale (June 16 to
October 4, 2009). It takes place in the culturally diverse and
dynamic Kerameikos and Metaxourgeio (KM) district of downtown
Athens. ReMap 2 considers and responds to the unique urban
energy and dynamic artistry of the neighborhood by offering a
rich web of cultural events and art happenings that aims to
introduce KM as a world-class contemporary art hub. ReMap
takes place every two years parallel to the Athens Biennale.
It is organized by the non-profit organization ReMap
KM.
Since
it started, it has attracted wide and varied audiences from
Greece and abroad. Its current programme will continue till
July 26th, as in September new exhibitions and projects will
be included.

Open Air Screening Room “Midsummer
Night’s Dream” (Title after the play, by Shakespeare)
Curated by Marina Fokidis, independent curator and art
critic Assistant curator: Sofia Mavroudis The
reference to this classic piece seems to form the ideal
symbolical background for the projections of contemporary
video works in the specific context of Remap 2, at the street
level of a highly congested area, where a series of different
-often contradictory to each other -activities are taking
place simultaneously. As an ephemeral escape exit window,
“Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is a film program diffused in three
different sections:
Random Rules, Artists selections from
YouTube The project explores what YouTube means to
a certain intellectual community, by asking a number of
artists to choose videos from YouTube, and to curate their own
playlists in there. The result is a short of paradoxical
archive, which includes all the playlists, each under the name
of the artist-selector.
That’s all Greek to Me: The
program presents video works by artists that live in Greece
and whose works, one way or another reflects the spirit, and
the pathos of the complex contemporary urban locality as well
as Shakespeare’s play. It will also include various past
compilations and activities related to video art, that took
place in Athens but has not been presented into a bigger
audience, such as a selection of the different ‘video issues’,
curated by the artistic collect “Into the Pill”, which have
been showed mainly in the Internet.
Intercessions:
The program presents a selection of longer
duration video works and/or solo presentation of various
international and Greek artists who are involved with the
galleries and individual projects participating in Remap 2,
and whose work shares affinities with Shakespeare’s piece.
Unlike the previous programs, each night of this section will
be dedicated to the body of work by only one or maximum two
artists. More information about the artists and daily
programme, may be viewed at the Open Air Screening Room and
Calendar sections of www.remapkm.org
International Architecture Symposium
SiteSpecificStrategies The international
architecture symposium under the title
“SiteSpecificStrategies” will take place in September. It
brings together KM residents, architects, urbanists and other
scientists who will explore the role of architecture in
shaping the future urban identity, using the KM area as a
reference. Τhe symposium will attempt to identify innovative
ways of participation and involvement in urban life and
propose models of urban transformation. A series of workshops
will focus specifically on the KM area through the development
of architectural propositions and the realization of
architectural events in the neighborhood. More information:
