December 12, 2009 - February 6, 2010 Reception: Saturday, December 12, 7-9PM
RENTAL Gallery is pleased to present The Still House Group. Founded in January 2008, the Still House Group was conceived by Isaac Brest and Alex Perweiler to galvanize the talent surrounding them and provide the artists with an opportunity to exhibit. Originally functioning as an online viewing space, the platform for the Still House Group’s collection was a body of work selected by Brest and Perweiler after regular studio visits and constant contact with the artists. Encouraging each individual to hone their conceptual aim in an aesthetic that matched their potential, both founders are responsible for generating the momentum in a unit that has collectively produced works in photography, sculpture, painting, mixed-media, llustration, installation, projection, film and design. The group’s members help inspire, create, edit and install each other’s work from conception to exhibition, a process overseen by Brest and Perweiler.
Adopted as a pillar of its ethos, the group is passionate about incorporating the specifics of its exhibition locations into the framework of its shows. Its members seek to synthesize the space in which their work is shown with the work itself and in so doing, have begun lending their commentary on the traditional use of gallery space and ambitions for the viewing experience.
