Gallery On The Move present Rosa Barba’s “The Empirical Effect”, in collaboration with The Promenade Gallery in Vlora. “The Empirical Effect” (2009) is framed by long aerial tracking shots. Juddering and handheld, they bring to mind military reconnaissance footage, or conceptual art strategies in which a particular feature of the landscape is circumnavigated at a sufficient distance for it to embody myth.
Rosa Barba was born in 1972 in Agrigento. Lives and works in Berlin. After graduate studies at Theatre and Filmscience Erlangen and Academy of Media Arts Cologne, she frequented Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten Amsterdam. She has also exhibited at Jeu de Paume Paris, TATE Modern Level 2 London, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia Madrid, Centre Pompidou Paris, Carlier | Gebauer Berlin, Galeria Gio Marconi Milan, Liverpool Biennale 2010, 52nd and 53rd Venice Biennale, Torino Triennale 2008, Sculpture Center New York, 1st Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, Center for Contemporary Art Melbourne, Museum of Fine Arts Taipei, Center of Contemporary Arts Tel Aviv, Project Art Center Dublin, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and Baltic Art Center Visby.
