Contemporary Vietnamese painting is a complex mix of past and present, sharing aspects of Vietnam's cultural inheritance with western aesthetics.

Despite the years of war and subsequent closed society in Vietnam, the increased individuality of artistic expression during the last decade has led to new images, motifs and techniques that are a blend of Eastern and Western cultures. Chinese ink, handmade paper and traditional lacquer contrast with acrylics and oils. Impressionism, expressionism, cubism, fauvism all blend with Vietnamese themes such as the village, the countryside and daily life, resulting in beautiful serene, graceful and dreamlike work.

Painting is one of the most developed branches of the arts in Vietnam today; and Karen Taylor Contemporary Art working in association with specialists in Vietnamese contemporary and Modern painting, Oc-Eo Art, are privileged to be able to present ‘Through Eastern Eyes’, a collection of remarkable paintings by both young and established contemporary Vietnamese artists.

Vietnamese art has, over the last 10-15 years, become increasingly sought after and is both sold by galleries and collected by museums worldwide, as well as now exceeding estimates at auction. We believe that not only is it deserving of still greater recognition, but that it is some of the best value fine art to be collected anywhere in the world today.
