NEWS
Sadie Coles HQ is delighted to announce the opening of our new gallery Sadie Coles, 4 New Burlington Place, London W1 October, 2010. The gallery will open with a major exhibition of new sculptures by Swiss artist Urs Fischer.

Comprising of 5,000 square feet of exhibition space over two floors, the new West End gallery occupies the space that was Nigel Greenwood’s pioneering art gallery in the 1980s and early 90s. Sadie Coles will be hosting a rotation of ambitious exhibitions to parallel the existing programme at Sadie Coles HQ at 69 South Audley Street.

Urs Fischer’s exhibition Douglas Sirk will take the form of a labyrinthine installation of screen-printed chrome-steel boxes. The works are a continuation of the group exhibited last year at the New Museum in New York, Service à la française, arguably Fischer’s most ambitious work to date. The five exposed planes of each box are printed with dazzlingly high-resolution colour images showing five perspectives of miscellaneous everyday objects such as a doll’s house, shopping trolley, or taxidermy duckling. Seeming to hover within mirrored portals, the dissected images short-circuit our interpretation of physical reality, acquiring a fourth dimension.

Since opening on Heddon Street in 1997, Sadie Coles HQ has developed into a leading gallery for emerging and established contemporary artists. The inaugural exhibition of new paintings by American painter John Currin was followed by a show of works by British artist Sarah Lucas together with an off-site installation, The Law, in St John Street. This established the international dimension of the gallery’s exhibition programme, as well as the off-site projects which have presented artists’ work in a variety of locations throughout London and abroad as a complement to the gallery exhibitions.

Urs Fischer – Douglas Sirk opens on Wednesday 6th October 2010
