THE PROPOSITION
Continuing their 27-year business partnership in the art world, Ronald Sosinski and Ellen Donahue most recently opened The Proposition gallery in Chelsea in 2002.
After returning in 1980 from her course of study at Sotheby's in London, Ms. Donahue established a fine arts brokerage dealing in American Painting, French and Impressionist, European and American Modernist paintings, and then began a collaborative effort with Mr. Sosinski and the Museum of American Folk Art in New York to open their first exhibition space.
The gallery, located on historic property in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania featured the Edward Leight collection of reverse painting on glass and a Barbara (Christina) Johnson Collection of quilts, and several important shows of 19th Century objects.
In 1984, Ms. Donahue and Mr. Sosinski refocused their energies to New York and opened E.M. Donahue Gallery for Contemporary Art in the East Village, which later moved to Soho on the corner of Prince and Broadway, to be among the founding members of 560 Broadway.
Donahue/Sosinski Art specialized in promoting the work of New York-based, mid-career painters receiving reviews and recognition by Art in America and The New York Times throughout their 14 years.
The Proposition has broadened the scope of the gallery by including international artists and new media installations, which have been featured in the first five years of exhibitions.
