Frederieke Taylor Gallery is pleased to present its 10th Anniversary Invitational Part II marking its 10th year at its current location in Chelsea. To celebrate, we’ve asked friends of the gallery to select works by current gallery and viewing room artists. Anniversary Invitational Part II will include: Olive Ayhens, David Burrows, [dNASAb], Winka Dubbeldam, Peter Hutchinson, Julie Langsam, Raquel Maulwurf, Christian Moeller, Meredith Monk, Kirsten Nelson, Susanna Starr, Pauline Wiertz, Karen Yasinsky and Thomas Zummer. Works by these artists were selected by: Colleen Asper, Ellen Cantrowitz, Monroe Denton, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Olivia Georgia, An Hoang, Meredith Palmer, Barbara Sahlman, Keith Sanborn, Frederieke Taylor, Wiesje and Jack Van Hulst.
In the Project Room, Frederieke Taylor Gallery presents CHRISTY RUPP, Wake Up and Smell the Benzene. This exhibition features a new series of collaged landscapes, a study in scrambled geology and space. Combining images that come from old magazines, stockholders’ reports from oil companies, kid's science books, current magazines and catalogs, as well as some handmade papers, the collages depict our modern landscape showing the devastating effects of our technological advancement. Also on view will be hand-felted wool portraits of oil containers. By using this ancient textile fabrication to create these sculptures, the artist refers to our dependence on fossil fuels and a careless mindset of over-consumption and comfort.
