18 FEB-21 MAR 2010 OPENING RECEPTION 18 FEB 2010 AT SIX PM CHAIR AND THE MAIDEN GALLERY, 19 CHRISTOPHER STREET, NYC
Following Reed's career milestone participation in Bilateral Engagement at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC, this past January, his first installation combining all medias of expression, Through The Heart Of It All, opens this Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Chair and the Maiden Gallery, NYC. Reed's unique spiritual exuberance profuses throughout the gallery taking form in ancient ritualistic frenzy. It is through his sculpture, painting, textile and performance that he is able to transport his public to a place of commonality, crossing all boundaries of culture and ethnicity. Reed has created a place where the fundamental basis of humanity is stripped of all pretext, a place to experience.
"Bilateral Engagement" is a visual poem. -The Washington Post "Reed's work suggests a strong reverence for the environment" -The Washington Diplomat "Each nkisi contains medicine (bilongo) and soul (mooya), combined to give it life and power." -Robert Farris Thompson, Afro-American Scholar "Reed approaches all cultures with a pantheistic fervor." -Laura Roulet, Independent Curator
