10 Solo Projects Showcasing Contemporary Artists Produced by Clementine Gallery and Sponsored by Lucky, Cargo and Domino, The Condé Nast Shopping Magazines

Art Rock, an indoor/outdoor public art exhibition produced by New York City’s Clementine Gallery, will transform the Plaza at Rockefeller Center March 7–14, 2005 into a stunning contemporary art gallery featuring innovative works from internationally-renowned artists. The exhibit will be presented by the Condé Nast shopping magazines Lucky, Cargo and Domino and will be hosted by Tishman Speyer Properties.

Visitors to the exhibit will pass through gateway lobbies designed by Todd Oldham and enter self-contained units showcasing works that range from the representational to the abstract by acclaimed international and American artists. Select installations will also be featured outside on the Plaza. This novel configuration will create a series of unique environments in which viewers can experience each artist’s distinctive vision, identity and style.

The participating galleries will present one solo project that best reflects the progressive spirit of the Art Rock exhibit. The works, many of which were created expressly for the show at Rockefeller Center, include a sculpture of a mirrored house by Rob Fischer (Mary Goldman Gallery), an installation of a home exterior that offers viewers tantalizing glimpses of its interior by Taylor McKimens (Clementine Gallery) and videos by Matthias Müller (Galerie Volker Diehl/Stellan Holm Gallery). Other selected artists include Marc Swanson (Bellwether), Ivan Navarro (Roebling Hall), Richard Aldrich (Oliver Kamm), Ivan Witenstein (Derek Eller Gallery), Matt Johnson (Taxter & Spengemann), Sarah Oppenheimer (PPOW) and Trevor Appleson (Hales Gallery).

“We are thrilled to work with great partners like Lucky, Cargo and Domino and Tishman Speyer Properties to present the works of these ten cutting-edge artists,” said Elizabeth Burke of Clementine Gallery. “Since we opened in 1996, Clementine Gallery has been committed to providing international exposure for artists and we can think of no better place to do this than at Rockefeller Center, one of the world’s great locations.”

The Exhibit’s presenters, the Condé Nast shopping magazines Lucky, Cargo and Domino, have established themselves as trendsetters, with Lucky being named “Magazine of the Year” by Advertising Age in 2003. Following the success of Lucky, Condé Nast introduced Cargo, a buyer’s guide for men covering clothes, tech, cars and more, and Domino, a shopping magazine for the home, launching in April.
