Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to present a 15-year survey of artwork by Marco Breuer. This exhibition coincides with the publication of Early Recordings, a monograph published by Aperture.
1892–2007 includes a wide range of Breuer’s photographic explorations, from recent works on chromogenic paper to early black-and-white photograms, gum bichromate prints, silkscreens, artist books, and unlimited newsprint editions. This non-linear installation—with earlier photographs displayed alongside more recent work—includes many previously unseen works and gives insight into the full scope of Breuer’s ongoing investigation of photography.
For the last 15 years Breuer has challenged conventional notions of what constitutes a photograph. Breuer’s work is distinct for its considered use of materials, uncommon portrayal of time, and unparalleled sense of discovery.
Marco Breuer has exhibited widely throughout the United States and Europe. His work is in numerous collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, and the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart, Germany. He recently curated Drawing, Thinking at Von Lintel Gallery and edited a ten-page spread for Art on Paper’s July/August issue. Breuer’s work is featured on the cover of the September/October issue of Blind Spot magazine.
