OPENING NIGHT CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION FOR COLLECTORS AND ENTHUSIASTS TUESDAY 1 JULY
London, 27th May 2008 – Peter Quintana and the Partners of Oc-Eo Art, a fine art company specialising in contemporary and modern Asian art, announced today that they will mount the inaugural solo exhibition in London of modern and contemporary paintings by He Hong Wei. Entitled ‘Hometown’, the exhibition will be held at Gallery 27, 27 Cork Street, London W1, from Monday 30 June to Saturday 12 July inclusively. 25 works from He Hong Wei’s Hometown series will be on view and offered for sale and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the China Earthquake Appeal.
He Hong Wei – born 1971 in Inner Mongolia, He Hong Wei has won accolades for his work on paper documenting the Asian SARS crisis of 2003, and has exhibited at several major exhibitions in Beijing. Showing for the first time in London, his Hometown series is an exploration of the significance of birth place in Chinese culture and perhaps a statement about the price of progress in the world’s fastest growing economy. Rooted in traditional Chinese brush painting, but also strongly influenced by Cezanne and Picasso, Hong Wei’s series of abstract/impressionist land- and city-scapes is like an ancient, epic Chinese scroll painting, linking the past, present and future with powerful and emotional memories. But they are also a series of independent paintings, each with their own artistic individuality and aesthetics.
Peter Quintana, founder of Oc-Eo Art said ‘I was very lucky to meet He Hong Wei in Beijing last year, and am delighted to be able to bring his Hometown series of paintings to London. He is a remarkable and very exciting talent. The contemporary Chinese art market is thriving, and this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire work by an artist who is just beginning to emerge into the spotlight.’
‘Hometown’ will be on show from June 30 to July 12 at Gallery 27, 27 Cork Street, Mayfair, London W1. A private view and champagne reception VIPs, collectors and enthusiasts will be held from 18.30hrs to 21.30hrs on Tuesday, July 1.
