Slick is an animated short by Sabra Booth that satirizes the effects of the BP oil spill on the Gulf Coast. Parts of the animation were actually shot in several Louisiana state park beaches and bayous near the effected areas. She grew up on the beaches of south Florida and frequents the Texas beaches now. A fascination with marine life often enters her studio work. The narrative follows actual events but also creates potential outcomes in fantastic ways paralleling Japan’ s Godzilla movies that addressed nuclear radiation. The overall film is a mixture of drawn paper doll-like characters, grease painting on glass, animated specimens, collage, and photographs.
