OPENING: 26 JUNE 18 - 21H EXHIBITION: 27 JUNE - 5 SEPTEMBER 2009
Entre deux, Collateraux, Pour Voir: Rémy Hysbergue works in series. Each of his series explores pictorial issues. The series are connected with each other by the exploration of painting itself and its effects: The principles of texture, surface and the application of color and the continuous research of those. Herefrom emerges a play about and with painting, space and last but not least the viewer.
Hysbergue works without sketches or layouts, but with a specific method concerning the composition and color application: The painter transforms his supports into SURFACES. He works on PVC, canvas, glass or velvet, blurs the borders between his constructed surface and the support to create transparencies, veiles and shades. The works of Hysbergue are changing continuously, depending on the angle of view, movement or light. It surprises and tricks the viewer, by making canvas look like PVC and opposing emptiness, overload and « distillation ».
Hysbergue finds his inspiration in 20th Century Art, the old masterpieces, but also magazines and books. He develops connections and organizes them on his painted surfaces.
SURFACES is Rémy Hysbergues first solo exhibition in Germany.
