April 18 – May 18, 2008 What Are You Laughing At? Curated by Nina Johnson
Opening Reception: Friday, April 18, 2008, 7 – 10pm
What Are You Laughing At? aims to answer the question about comedies role in art. Does gaining access to the viewer via comedy somehow cheapen the work? Does comedy in fact disarm the viewer and make them more open to the artist’s message? What happens when an artist embraces the American-lack of culture and uses kitsch to touch a certain note in the viewer, can this still be easily construed as ‘High Art’.
This show includes the works of David Hevel, Leslie and the Ly (Leslie Hall), Scott Listfield, Abby Manock and David Leroi. Through May 18.
