About the artists:
Alicia Frankovich's work is comprised of performance, performance-based videos, short films and sculpture.She is interested in the exhibition experience and art encounter, where she puts bodies into situations wherethey play out relations that test social behaviours and codes.Alicia Frankovich (born 1980 in New Zealand) has presented a range of performances in various contexts,most recently in 2012: The opportune spectator at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne; Bisons at Contact,Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt; Floor Resistance at The Walters Prize, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki;Human Trophies at Deathrace 2000, AIR Antwerpen, Antwerp and ...and they installed the office in the tavern,organised by The Office (Berlin) and Le Bureau/, Paris, Drei Schwestern, Berlin, and Gaîté Lyrique, Bar du foyerhistorique, Paris.
Annika Larsson (born 1972) is a Swedish artist, working mainly with film and video. Her works have been widely shown internationally, at institutions including Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel; Fundacion la Caixa, Barcelona; Le Magasin, Grenoble; Kunsthalle Nürnberg, Nürnberg; ICA-Institute of Contemporary Art, London; ZKM,Karlsruhe; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; S.M.A.K., Gent and Musac, Lyon. She has participated in biennials such as 49th Venice Biennial, 8th Istanbul Biennial and 6th Shanghai Biennial among others. Larsson lives and works in Berlin.
Augustin Maurs (born 1975) is a French cellist, composer and interdisciplinary artist living in Berlin. Recent projects include WINTERREISEN - 24 unfinished songs, El Cant Dels Ocells - Concerto for Cello, Gong Ensemble, Orations and Table Ceremony, Allemande - Reiterations for an empty stage, IN-FOLGEN - The attempt of a dialog between Goya, Purcell, Ruthenbeck and Shiota, SYMPHONY – installation with works bAnniky Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Georges de Scudéry, Nam June Paik, Gustav Mahler and Annika Larsson, KIEU - Miniature Opera, and WRONG - Music for drunk audience, cello, piano and acoustical handicaps.
Natalie Czech (born 1976 in Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Ludlow 38, New York; Galerie Kadel Willborn, Karlsruhe; Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf; and in group shows including Kunsthaus Bregenz and Sprengel Museum, Hannover. She has received numerous awards and scholarships, including in 2012 the Ellen Auerbach Scholarship for Photography of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin
Jean-Pascal Flavien (born 1971 in France) lives and works in Berlin. Flavien's work combines architectural experimentwith other medias. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions amongs others at Catherine Bastide, Galerie,Brussels, Giti Nourbakhsch, Berlin, South London Gallery, London, Kunstverein Langenhagen, Parc Saint Leger, France,and in group shows inclu-ding among others, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Musac Leon, Witte de With, Rotterdam, Tate Modern,London, Villa Arson, Nice.
The Truant Monks consider themselves less as musicians, and more as a living sound installation. They practice the compostationof sound rather than the composition of music. Their live performances are based on the improvised manipulation of field recordings,which are broken down over time into varying states of decay, and layered repeatedly. The result is a sonic humus shaped with anawareness for the unique conditions in which it is created.
Truant Monks are Ian Warner and Jens Nordmann. Alongside their professional engagements -- Warner as a partner atBlotto Design, and Nordmann as artist -- both have been collaborating together in various experimental music projects since 2002.The breadth of their research covers four-handing piano improvisation, text-based sound-essays and the development of their ownmusical instruments, such as the maneki-neko dulcimer.
