In its 9th year, White Box, the first alternative art space in Chelsea and one of the last outposts in the district today, is proud to present an exhibition unlike any other to have taken place in its unique architectural space – this October, White Box is rockin’ out!

With Rock n’ Roll Fantasy, Daria Brit Shapiro is not “curating an exhibition,” she is putting on a show brimming with debauchery, high style, fabulous death and irrational obsession, revealing stylish content with an unsettling social beat. Each artwork is carefully chosen to represent an element essential to the aspiring rock star. Rock n’ Roll Fantasy includes sculpture, video and multi-media installations, ranging from psychedelia to punk to 80’s pop rock, referencing musicians from John Cage to the New York Dolls to Elton John.

With this exhibition, White Box has decided to alter its traditional socially and politically provocative platform by avoiding gratuitous war-loaded imagery packaged in camouflage and echoing the controversy of Vietnam prevalent in current shows around town. However, the need for protest is here to stay, and the culture of rock n’ roll continues to be a powerful demonstration of dissent. Rock n’ Roll Fantasy affords a different kind of protest – a fantasy of smoke and blacklights, altering perceptions and shaking up the senses.
