Sign sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign.

Unit B (Gallery) is pleased to present our Contemporary Art Month exhibition, Let This Be a Sign featuring new works by Alejandro Diaz, Kristy Perez, and Gary Sweeney. Let This Be a Sign addresses the “sign” in contemporary art. The artists in the show find their sources in language that comments on pop culture, politics, and beauty. By executing works with the focus on the perception of the sign these works stimulate the viewer to become a questioner by inviting reflection on the intentions and meanings.

Alejandro Diaz will display a selection of handmade cardboard signs from his Mexican Wallpaper series in the living room gallery. Kristy Perez will do a site-specific installation in the kitchen gallery, while Gary Sweeney will exhibit several large-scale signs in the gallery yard that quote a conversation from the movie, Sunset Boulevard.

Opening Reception: July 17, 6:30-10pm
Artlies Summer 2009 issue launch party: August 15, 7-9pm
Gallery Hours: Saturdays, 3-5pm and by appointment.
