Brian Calvin

Tommaso Corvi-Mora is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Los Angeles-based artist Brian Calvin.

Brian Calvin's painting practice is rooted in the tradition of modernist painting, from Milton Avery to Alex Katz, from Philip Guston to Henri Matisse. His paintings often describe strangely poignant ordinary scenes, in-between moments that could be overlooked but become memorable.

In the early 90s Brian Calvin graduated from University of California, Berkley before attending the School of The Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois, where he received an MFA in 1994.
Brian Calvin has been exhibiting since the early '90s. Over the past two years his work has been included in many group exhibitions in Europe and the US: "Good Morning, Midnight" (Casey Kaplan, New York curated by Bruce Hainley 2007),"If everybody had an Ocean. Brian Wilson an art exhibition" (Tate St Ives, St Ives, UK 2007), "Red Eye. LA Artists from the Rubell Family Collection" (Rubell Family Collection, Miami 2006) "The Americans. New Art" (Barbican Centre, London 2001); "Dear Painter, Paint Me" (Centre Pompidou, Paris 2002); "Painting Pictures" (Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg 2003); "The California Biennial" (Orange County Museum of Art, New Port Beach CA 2004).
