Life is in the Details - Everyone of us has a dream. We get up each morning with that dream in mind and proceed through the day remaining focused on achieving that dream one day. But what about the little motions that make up the day? And how do the days fit together to make up a week, a month, a year? With every small detail of a day we are constructing our future.
Through a series of mixed media "quilts" I am investigating how individual parts come together into a larger whole. These pieces consist of literally hundreds of formed and found elements placed in small, clear plastic pouches that are then hand-stitched together into larger grids. The sheer scale of each panel has an immediate physical impact while each enshrined object asks the viewer for individual attention. The addition of a sound recording of the actual stitching process becomes a spiritual, non-physical element in the work.

Show co-curated by Garland Fielder and Masumi Kataoka. HOMELAND SECURITIES - A show co-curated by Garland Fielder & Masumi Kataoka was inspired by their travels in 2006. Visiting over a dozen countries worldwide, Fielder & Kataoka were struck again and again by the various notions of "home" as defined by artists & friends they encountered. Given the current precarious political atmosphere, the curators are interested in the mingling of the notions of "homeland" and "security" both as a general word ssociation and as a personal vehicle for self definition vs. an imposed societal construct.
