ATC GALLERY PRESENTS Sadie Harmon: New Work Opening Reception: Saturday, May 17th 6-10pm Continues through July 5, 2008
(Chicago, May 1, 2008) ATC Gallery announces an exhibition of New Work by emerging Chicago installation artist, Sadie Harmon. Her work investigates the connections between the lexicon of cultural references such as Twin Peaks, sideshow performers and 'the abyss'. Harmon's work illuminates obscure connections within her dynamic subjects and maps out their hidden associations through delicate yet powerful installations.
Harmon's work unfolds as a specific portrait of one's interior reasoning, laced with sufficient evidence to entangle the viewer. She utilizes the gallery space as a complexly ordered map of the mind, complete with color-coding and obsessively constructed objects and diagrams. The work is meant to be viewed as an anarchic narrative, the vehicle through which drawing, collage and theme are displayed along with annotations. These annotations are a series of associations and connections whose sole purpose is to form a cohesive picture plane through a grander notion. Each individual installation corresponds to a particular theme, which is delineated by color and material. The cataloguing of each piece within the context of the entire exhibition is where the overarching similarities and tropes become apparent.
Sadie Harmon received her BFA at The Art Institute of Chicago and Beloit College in Beloit, WI. She has a strong background in Museum Studies, the experience of interacting with museum collections informs her work, much of which is grounded in ideas of collection and organization. Her work has been shown in group shows in Illinois and Wisconsin, this is her first solo exhibition with ATC Gallery.

Project #2 is a kinetic joy-ride composting habit and gender to yield a moment-to-moment choreographic negotiation of weight, balance, and momentum. This is the second phase of development in a long-term duet collaboration between independent choreographer Julia Rae Antonick and Khecari artistic director Jonathan Meyer. Also in this show we welcome special guest Asimina Chremos in a solo dance performance. Project #2 features original live music from Joseph St Charles and Patric McCarthy and new dance wear costumed by Iris Bainum-Houle.

Around the Coyote, a 501(c)3 non-profit, supports, promotes and makes accessible Chicago's multidisciplinary arts community. Our activities enhance public discourse and provide creative outlets for emerging artists. Year-round programming includes multi-media arts festivals featuring visual art, theater, dance, video and poetry in the spring and fall; art exhibitions in the Around the Coyote gallery; an artist-in-residence program; membership opportunities for artists and art aficionados; educational outreach for all ages through multi-media art workshops, lectures, collaborations with local schools and agencies, and career development workshops for artists.
