Nic Hess (born 1968 in Zurich) is among the most prolific exponents of the young generation of Swiss artists. His transdimensional, installative creations have already earned him international acclaim as he now returns to exhibit new works at Arndt & Partner in Zurich.
In his creations, Nic Hess works with familiar images, certain of which are of artistic value while others are from mainstream culture. Images which possesses emotional significance since they stir imagination and memories. They thus become personal and collective symbols, and an experience of the world grounded on time-related perception.
Nic Hess produces his regeneration or post generation images by means of collages, copies and cut-outs. Because the support is the wall, the visual space, at which the artist always aims, is enlarged. Through the combination of meandering lines, wall paintings, luminous boxes, plastic works and objects, Hess creates a room installation that is like a piece of music - orchestrated in the rhythm of harmonious instruments, always visually intonated "vivendo" and sometimes "with staccato" by the artist but at the same time physically interpretable.
The exhibition I would eat them anywhere at Arndt & Partner in Zurich exclusively shows new works whereby "Anywhere" represents the leading idea of the concept of space that aggregates the individual works according to a well established, associative pattern, emphasizing at the same time the path in-between. "Anywhere" - someplace - these tracks can be observed, on which one travels from one station to the next, without, however, ever reaching one's destination.
