From Art to Life to Art.
Jacob Dahlgren at Andréhn-Schiptjenko
March 26 – May 3, 2009

We are very proud to present Jacob Dahlgren’s first solo show, From Art to Life to Art, at Andréhn-Schiptjenko.
The exhibition opens on Thursday March 26th, 5 pm – 8 pm.

Dahlgren represented Sweden in the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2007, and has since exhibited worldwide at venues such as Henry Art Gallery (solo), Seattle, USA, and in shows such as Superabundant at Turner Contemporary, Margate, UK, Altered, Stitched and Gathered, at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center/MoMA, New York, USA, Dangerous Beauty, Chelsea Art Museum, New York, USA and Image and After, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland.

Dahlgren’s show at Andréhn-Schiptjenko is an extensive presentation of his work, consisting of large-scale sculptures, photos, a slide show, paintings, objects - and a changing presentation of his T-shirt paintings. A common theme for all the works is how art and our everyday life are intertwined.

Jacob Dahlgren has worn a striped T-shirt every day for the last eight years and will continue to do so for the rest of his life. Every T-shirt is documented as a painting. In his show at Andréhn-Schiptjenko, he will show one painting at a time, changing every second day.
Dahlgren looks upon himself as a walking, living exhibition in his striped T-shirts and he also considers the world to be an art show. The slide show “Signs of abstraction”, consisting of over 10,000 images, shows how our every day life can be viewed as an exhibition of geometric abstract patterns.

The story of the show’s large-scale sculpture, entitled From Art to Life to Art, is closely linked to its title. It is made out of tins of food that Jacob has eaten. The whole sculpture has been travelling through his body before becoming a geometrical sculpture. This work can be viewed as a modernist abstraction but also as an interactive process, relating to some of his earlier works such as I, the world, things, life in the Nordic Pavilion in Venice.

From Art to Life to Art.
Jacob Dahlgren på Andréhn-Schiptjenko
26 mars - 3 maj, 2009

Andréhn-Schiptjenko är stolta att presentera Jacob Dahlgrens första separatutställning på galleriet; From Art to Life to Art.

Historien bakom utställningens storskaliga skulptur, betitlad From Art to Life to Art, är nära förknippat med dess titel. I, the world, things, life i Nordiska paviljongen i Venedig.
