Ken Gregory's installation and performance work is centred around the exploration of the relationship between technology and humans. In an unscientific way, and with an artist's creative eye, his artworks look at how this relationship is manifest. His work process is an improvisational and intuitive application of tools and ideas. Raw materials such as discarded technology, electronics, programming code and found objects are manipulated through various processes and reconstituted into new structures which play upon new meanings and interpretations. This practice started with an interest in audio sampling technologies and audio cut up methods, and has expanded to include almost anything : objects, electronic circuits, audio, video, computer code and mechanical systems. These elements are all combined using juxtapositions and other explorative processes in the creation of Gregory's artwork. For his exhibition at articule, Ken Gregory will build an acoustic electro-mechanical system that poetically reproduces the processes involved in operating the Aeolian Kite Instrument in the field. Receiving the audio recordings from this outdoor instrument, his electro-magnetic sculpture in the gallery not only becomes a poetic and kinetic representation of a sound speaker, but also mirrors the different components of the Aeolian Kite Instrument used to capture the wind's voice.
Winnipeg artist Ken Gregory has been working with DIY interface design, hardware hacking, audio, video, and computer programming for over 15 years. His creative performance and installation work has shown publicly in Winnipeg, other parts of Canada and many international media and sound arts festivals. His works are presented in the form of gallery installations, live performances, live radio broadcasts and audio compact discs. Recent career highlights, amongst others, are the acquisition of 12 motor bells, a large sound installation by the National Gallery of Canada, Cheap Meat Dreams and Acorns, a touring solo survey exhibition to the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Confederation Centre in Charlottetown PEI and The Art Gallery of Hamilton in Hamilton Ontario.

Les installations et performances de Ken Gregory se concentrent sur l'exploration du rapport entre la technologie et les humains. Ses ¦uvres examinent les manifestations de ce rapport d'une manière non scientifique, selon la perspective créatrice de l'artiste. Son processus de travail consiste en l'application d'outils et d'idées par le biais de l'improvisation et de l'intuition. Les matériaux bruts, comme les technologies désuètes, l'électronique, le langage de programmation, les objets trouvés et autres choses du genre, sont altérés selon divers processus et recomposés pour former des structures qui jouent sur de nouvelles significations et interprétations. Cette pratique a débuté par un intérêt pour les technologies de sampling et les méthodes de coupure utilisées par Gregory dans la production de ses premières ¦uvres audio, pour se développer par la suite, et inclure presque tout: objets, circuits électroniques, audio, vidéo, langage de programmation, système mécaniques. Ces éléments sont amalgamés par juxtaposition et autres processus expérimentaux dans la création de ses ¦uvres. Pour son exposition chez articule, Ken Gregory construira un système acoustique électro-mécanique qui reproduit poétiquement les processus de fonctionnement du cerf-volant éolien sur le terrain. Sa sculpture électro-magnétique placée dans la galerie recevra les enregistrements audio de cet instrument situé à l'extérieur, devenant non seulement la représentation poétique et cinétique d'un haut-parleur, mais reflétant également les différentes composantes du cerf-volant éolien utilisé pour capter la voix du vent.
Depuis plus de 15 ans, l'artiste Ken Gregory, basé à Winnipeg, travaille avec le design d'interface DIY, le piratage informatique, l'audio, la vidéo et la programmation informatique. Il a présenté publiquement son travail de création en performance et en installation à Winnipeg et dans d'autres régions du Canada, ainsi que dans le cadre de plusieurs festivals internationaux en arts médiatiques et audio. Ses ¦uvres prennent la forme d'installations en galerie, de performances en direct, d'émissions radio en direct et de disques compacts audio. Récemment, le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada faisait l'acquisition de sa grande installation sonore 12 motor bells, et une rétrospective de son travail intitulée Cheap Meat Dreams and Acorns était mise en circulation à la Art Gallery of Windsor, au Confederation Centre de Charlottetown (Î.-P.-É.), ainsi qu'à la Art Gallery of Hamilton (Hamilton, Ontario).
