100 Tonson Gallery proudly presents Karma Police, a solo exhibition by Yuree Kensaku, one of Thailand’s most outstanding young female artists. Now entering the eleventh year of her fruitful career, Kensaku has worked with 100 Tonson Gallery since the gallery's inception. One of Thailand’s most internationally recognized artists, her works are included in the permanent collection of the Singapore Art Museum (Singapore), Mori Art Museum and Yokohama Museum of Art (Japan).

Kensaku is known for the distinctive way in which she uses vivid colors and a diverse range of materials. Not limited to paintings on ordinary canvas, she has broadened her palette by utilizing new materials and textures, such as the curtains now found bordering some of her paintings, or even painting on other materials such as trays, pans, TVs, radios, door frames, etc. Other media have also been recently explored, including animation drawing, music videos, and wall painting.
In her latest exhibition, Karma Police, the artist shares her experience of being cheated by a construction contractor, a situation which left her homeless and studio-less. While facing considerable upheaval and angst, the artist was reminded of the natural rules of the law of Karma and took a step back to look around and observe how different religions have different ways of looking at how the world works. In terms of technique and materials, Yuree employs fiberglass in the series. The resulting works blur the line between painting and sculpture.
Karma Police exhibition will be on view from 29 August 2013 – 3 November 2013. The opening reception at 7pm on Thursday, 29 August 2013 will include a special animation and live sound performance by Yuree Kensaku and Moderndog guitarist May-T Noijinda.
