Building My Personal Edition of the Victoria Harbor Front images (Or Questioning the Subscription to a Place's 'Official' Image) Lambda print on dibond, a set of 2 100x75 cm each 2010
While helping people identify a place, images partly make up the identity of a place as people form a mental image of it. Often such mental images don’t reflect much about personal experience of a particular place. They are mostly from what I call a 'subscription' to a stereotypical or an 'official edition' image.
I admit I have my own 'subscribed official image' of places. And I am interested in exploring and producing my own personal version of images of places to 'counter' my ‘subscribed official images'.
My images of place don't mean to be more 'real' than the 'official edition' because I am as biased as others. What I want to offer is a different way of mentally and actually seeing, interpreting a place.
