ARTIST STATEMENT
I begin my creative process by searching and gathering the unwanted urban decay from my immediate neighborhood. When these materials are brought together in my studio, alchemy begins. The works are formed through a process of deconstruction and reconfiguration. The crude fashioning of the sculptures is intentional and is meant to convey a wide variety of emotional elements. Throughout the process there exists an ongoing and lively dialogue between myself and the piece. It is through this dialogue that the piece becomes an active participant in its own creation. The finished works serve as allegories for survival and bestow the message that all matter is valuable, possessing the potential to transform into something worthy of our time and contemplation.

The artists involved with the New York Dada movement of the 1920’s and Italy’s Arte Povera movements of the 1960’s serve as creative mentors for me. Their actions and works provide thought provoking inspiration as I continue to experiment with the vast options of materials and ideas which are available to contemporary artists today.
