I paint portraits of everyday objects in which formal decisions describe the extra energy within each object; a kind of material mysticism in which common objects become animated with psychic potential.

The work is often informed by Feng Shui, Astrology, and symbols of good luck, both real and fictitious and from various sources and cultures. I like the idea of objects or arrangements of objects having the power to alter one's life, and I am interested in the similiarity between this and a formal discussion about painting; the serendipity of color and shape.

Dedicated to observational and abstract traditions in painting, I am also aware that singularly, each is conservative and out-dated. A narrative of fetishizing Modernism and finding transcendence through Pop intensify the still life and the graphic abstraction.

My work is about an honesty of simultaneously actualizing enigmatic images and realizing artificiality; a Modernist sense of belief and a Postmodern awareness of limitation. Sincerity and sarcasm reveal the mundane as both magical and synthetic.
