Virus Mixed media

Much of my work is created in an attempt to make physical manifestations of intangible things.
The themes of my works dictate the media they are made from, from the traditional to the unorthodox.
The installation 'I Feel Like I've Been Away' was created as a metaphor for human behaviour. A cloud of moths made from net curtains and wire hang suspended from silk threads around a dim bulb. The moths' misguided flight towards the bulb in search of the moon acts as an analogy for the blindly persistent and destructive nature which also exists in man.

The installation entitled 'Virus' was an attempt to objectify the regurgitation of a tale, the way it becomes dislocated from the truth and corrupted in meaning, spreading from one point to another like a virus, mutating as it goes. The balls were made from rubber bands bound repetitively over each other. They were stretched and contorted and possessed an intense potential energy, like tiny time-bombs waiting to unravel or explode. Each rubber band ball carried words on labels from sentences which were closely related to the theme of the piece. It would be theoretically possible for the viewer to decipher the contents of each sentence, to break the code and uncover the truth, though this would take patience and perseverance. In reality, confused and conflicting narratives appeared.
This installation entitled 'Small White Lies' was created from suspended cocoons made from silk and wire. On each one was written a lie in ultra violet ink. The cocoons appeared to be beautiful and benign. It was only under ultra violet light that their true sinister nature was exposed.

These paintings are from a series of works based around the themes of the moment, the impending and the inevitable.
I use innocous and ambiguous locations and situations for my images. This allows the viewer to apply their own narrative to the work.
