"I wouldn't like to live in the open air but sometimes I would"
(George Perec 'Species of Spaces')

Commissioned by ROOM, Klepuszewska re-visits the darkened interior, utilising three images from her award-winning series 'Living Arrangements', she creates new sections of work that interweave the indoor with the outdoor.

"A passionate commitment underlies her work and this is powerfully transferred to us in her dark, emotional subjects. There is a background of social concern, yet the details arrest the viewer regardless of the original motivation. The objects shrouded in blackness, become vessels of fantasy, whispering to us of another possible existence. Complex narratives are spun around the conception of space, where we briefly lift the lid on a private interior.

The interpretation of the interior is grasped in relation to the outside. The homely comfort of possessions and collected, or leftover, items seem to evoke a longing for the world beyond the open window, of a past almost forgotten. To live in the wouldn't or the would? The question exists over the hill, in that room heavy with memory, at the edge of the photograph's darkness." Clark 2008

Image No. 1 - #54 2008 'Found throughout most of the Northern Hemisphere, the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) utilises a wide range of habitats including forests, mountains, farmlands and urban areas. They feed on insects, earthworms, small birds and mammals, eggs, carrion and vegetable matter, especially fruits. Solitary for most of the year, they do not live in dens except in the breeding season but sleep concealed in grasses and thickets with their tails curled around them for warmth.'

Image No. 6 - #53 2008 'Care must be taken that ventilation holes do not become blocked or covered. Small holes may be enlarged by gnawing, clawing or pressure; the possibility of airholes being enlarged in this manner and permitting escape must always be considered.'

Image No. 7 - #57 2008 'Have had two dull but dry days with a little sunshine so have been out most of the time. It is very cold for this time of year but have brought a good supply of woollies. There is a little lake with lovely woodlands on the southern bank which seems different to the usual lakeland scenery. Expect to be back a week on Monday.'

Image No. 8 - #52 2008 'It is important that the tree always be kept watered. If the tree becomes dried out, it may not be able to adequately absorb moisture once it is re-watered, and it will shed its needles prematurely. To prevent early needle loss a good rule of thumb is to treat the tree just like a fresh bouquet of cut flowers.'
