Revisiting C Delilabros Paper Objects 09
Artists Statement

Working with formative elements from his youth, Delilabros attempts to reconstruct significant familial and cultural events that were prevalent in his day to day adolescence.
These reconstructions result in not only an incredibly personal exploration of a childhood outside of England and the United Kingdom,
but a look into an outsider’s absorption of both of those cultures.

Constantine Delilabros had an interest in the occult and in numerical explorations of the bible, both of which he would transform into sculpture, music and various forms of craft.
The only notes that remain from these projects,
aside from the artist’s memories, are a sequence of numbers written in his father’s bible.
The artist
will pick up where his father left off and attempt to bring a now lost body of work, which was never intended to be public, and test it’s value in the public sphere.

Panayiotis Delilabros 2009
Growing up in Athens and moving to London in 1996, Delilabros’ work has most recently focused on reinterpreting pop culture’s intentions. A child of the 80’s and a member of the first wave of the MTV generation, Delilabros’ current practice involves a revaluation of the values and imagery that were inherit to that generation’s visual vocabulary. His work uses the visual imagery of music videos but subverts their intentions, provoking a cryptic and unsettling use of a typically light-hearted form of entertainment.
Much of Delilabros’ earlier work puts him into direct confrontation with his living mother and the memory of his late father.
The conflicts that arose from these encounters – religion, tradition, gender, memory – resulted in profound psychological reflections in regards to those parental relationships.
In continuation with this exploration of the memories of his family life, Delilabros has begun to reconstruct and amplify the remnants of his father’s artistic output.
