Stark and contorted figures haunt a downtown Los Angeles sidewalk. Imprisoned by piles of product catalogs from famous retailers and fabricated from the detritus of our consumer culture they confront the audience. Amidst this spectacle we are awakened temporarily from our stupor and reminded that we are the targets of the relentless sales campaigns that saturate our environment via billboards, television and the Internet. Are you and others addicted to conspicuous consumption? Are you tired of the resultant loneliness and desolation that our consumer culture fosters? Are You Product People?

Treiops Treyfid has been actively involved in the downtown art scene since 2000. His work explores themes including consumerism, loss of identity, and glamour. He is currently exploring a wide array of materials including recyclables, holographic foil and polyester resin. He has shown at many downtown and Hollywood galleries including The Hive, MJ Higgins, Create:Fixate, Eco-Art Gallery, Phantom Galleries, and J.Ferrari.

Los Angeles, CA – April 10 – May 3, 2008 – Popular downtown Los Angeles art gallery MJ Higgins will host a solo art show by contemporary artist Treiops Treyfid in their 4 th and Main st. location. The opening reception will be on Earth Day, April 22 nd from 6 to 9pm. The title of the show is “Animals of the Future” and consists of mixed media 3D and sculptural work.

All wild and exotic animals on our planet are under threat of extinction because of loss of habitat due to pollution, global warming, and human population growth. Fragile ecosystems are in serious peril all over the world and will pay a heavy price from the increased storms, floods, and coastal erosion that global warming will produce. So, who are the critters that will survive the coming catastrophe? They will be the ones that are able to live with or near humans, can live in an urban or semi-urban environment, and use human garbage as a food source. These are the "Animals of the Future". They include raccoons, opossums, rats, roaches, crows, coyotes, squirrels, sparrows, pigeons, deer, seagulls, lizards, rabbits, skunk, chipmunks, mice, feral cats, stray dogs, and many other species. The pieces in this show will highlight and tribute these overlooked noble survivors that live sometimes literally in our own backyards. The pieces are sculptural in nature and are made out of mostly recycled elements but also include exotic materials, and lighting.

Treiops Treyfid has been a fixture of the downtown gallery scene for years and his works are well-respected. His work lies firmly in the Contemporary realm, but with Visionary influences. His work explores themes including consumerism, loss of identity, glamour, and interconnectedness. Lately he has been exploring a wide array of materials including recyclables, holographic foil and polyester resin. He has shown at many downtown and Hollywood galleries including The Hive, Create:Fixate, Eco-Art Gallery, Phantom Galleries, and J.Ferrari.

Be sure to celebrate Earth Day by coming down to MJ Higgins Gallery on April 22 nd from 6 to 9pm for the opening reception. It will include a performance by local electronic music group Brain Garden who will incorporate samples of animal sounds into their ambient set.

Los Angeles, CA – June 6, 2009 –The Hive will host an installation by featured artist Treiops Treyfid at their 729 S. Spring street location. The opening reception will be on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 8pm to midnight. The title of the mixed media installation is “Power People”.

Silhouetted human forms bursting with energy stand in front of a panorama of Los Angeles half underwater. Entwined around their legs are many thick electrical cords woven together. The cords collect in piles on the floor on their way to the outlets. Above, a holographic sun rises, heating and illuminating the scene. All that remains to be seen of the city are the very tops of the downtown bank skyscrapers. Treyfid’s enigmatic work portrays through symbols the relationship between the use of power from fossil fuel sources and a rise in sea level. As our insatiable craving for power continues to increase we heat the Earth’s atmosphere causing the polar ice caps to melt and sea levels to rise, revealing the consequences of our unlimited and inefficient use of energy.

Treiops Treyfid has been actively involved in the Los Angeles art scene since 2000. His work is always conceptual and explores contemporary themes including the environment, consumerism, and loss of identity. He is currently exploring a wide array of materials including recyclables, holographic foil and polyester resin. He has shown at many downtown and Hollywood galleries including The Hive, Deborah Martin Gallery, MJ Higgins, Create:Fixate, Eco-Art Gallery, Phantom Galleries, and J.Ferrari.
