ADRIAN NAVARRO: RING CYCLE

Hammerson Art Space. London.

16 Dec 2010- 4 Mar 2011

Mon – Fri  9:00-18:00

10 Gresham Street. London EC2N 2BQ

Hammerson´s  Emerging Artist Initiative is pleased to present a new exhibition of work by London based artist Adrian Navarro.

The space at 10 Gresham Street is dominated by Navarro´s new works: the Ring Series. This new cycle of paintings describe implosions of colour trapped inside a floating toroidal volume, as it rotates weightlessly in the space in four different depicted sequences.

Adrian Navarro´s work aims to explore a certain visual experience: the duality of perception between Matter as a colourful and organic substance conceived on the basis of superimposed layers, and Form as an independent spatial figure. His paintings represent the struggle of this organic substance to emerge on the outside whilst contorting trapped in a floating container.

Navarro has developed his unique exploration into the three-dimensional experience to reaffirm the illusory condition of painting. He seeks to expand the vocabulary of the visual arts by investigating new mechanisms of intervention in the pictorial medium, which include tools borrowed from the architectural practice.
