Michelle Weinberg is inspired by the local and the sublime distilled from settings in nature and the urban environment, and from these she crafts a vivid contemporary folklore.
Her enthusiasm for signage, crooked geometry, interlocking modules, apocalyptic wallpaper, and imaginary terrain is matched with her obsession with pattern, vivid color, the jetsam and flotsam of commercial and popular culture, and a constantly shifting pictorial space. Weinberg's Indian miniature-like urban vistas destabilize the familiar and invite viewers to access the way in which contemporary life is stylized and fantasized via pictures.

"My goal as an artist is to use imagery to penetrate the veneer of everyday appearances, to activate and bring to the surface latent and surprising possibilities within. My process is about the freedom derived from re-arranging a set of givens from the visible world. "
