'The work of Matt McQuillan lends itself to the dissemination of information, stories, myths and narratives that 'stick'. His work tends to be balanced between performance and accompanying sculptural markers, whose references are taken from architecture, news and events or man-made forms within landscape.'

The object in 'Public Address' is based on a column that sits outside the front of the RBS building, London. The original column shows the time and exchange rate on digital displays, communicating information to commuters whilst acting as a marker of territory between public and private. During the works' exhibition I had a friend situated by the original and got him to read me the time and exchange rate via mobile phone. This information was chalked onto the front of the replica prop to signal the beginning of each performance. I then entered the column from an access door and read a selection of science fiction and speculative journalism, using a megaphone.

'Untitled' is a two part sculpture made from jesmonite and pvc tape. The two bollards can be installed anywhere in a given space, under the condition that they can't be seen together in the same field of vision.
