Body Maps
'Body Maps', left, was a solo show at Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop from 24 September - 12 November 2005.

The work is a mix of screen prints and screenprint/embossings. 12 pieces in total.

From each of the 10 cast navels used in previous works, the construction of small contour drawings have evolved that are based on these negative forms. The delicate lines carefully follow the individuals birth chord creating a topographical image from this part of the body.

Funding from the Hope Scott Trust.
'glass navels'
'glass navels', left, is a midway point of ideas focusing on identity using the navel as a focal point. 10 navels were cast and replicas made from glass.

The negative forms later went on to inform digital and screen prints 'O.S. forms'.
Superficial or Inherent

'breathe', Superficial or Inherent
'Superficial or Inherent', (3 images to right) was a solo exhibition shown at both Kunstverein Rastatt in August 2002 and Streetlevel Photoworks in Glasgow in 2003.

'breathe', right, involves 2 digital animations to engage and involve the viewer in a multi-sensory experience working to create a strong presence of being. Two navels pump in and out in sequence with breathing from these individuals. As the viewer stands within the projected animations the feeling is visceral, of closeness and somewhat uncomfortable forcing your thoughts on your own breath.

From each of the 10 cast navels used in previous works, the construction of small contour drawings have evolved that are based on these negative forms. The delicate lines carefully follow the individuals birth chord creating a topographical image from this part of the body.

In this sense these drawings can be seen to correspond to birthplaces, birthrights and more obviously land mass.
Shown alongside these drawings are photographs of embossed skin, describing the people whose navels are illustrated. These images include the typical information asked for when a passport is issued, age, date of birth, place of birth etc. dual nationality. Also, visual information is stated, what we perceive from first meeting an individual - hair colour, build, height.
'seeing is believing'
'seeing is believing', left, formed part of a solo show 'Existing Bodies' at Glasgow's Streetlevel Photoworks in 2000 and George Watson's College, Edinburgh in 1999 following a year long residency.

Following visits to Bosnia the work explored, in various digital and photographic media, identity and language.
