Quilla Constance (also known as Jennifer Allen) is a British Video/Performance artist, Satirist and Costumier. Having graduated from The Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford (2001) with a BA in Fine Art, and Goldsmiths College, University of London with an in MA Fine Art, (2006); Quilla Constance currently combines her artistic concerns with live/recorded electro-punk music performances and video installations situated in a fine art, academic and mainstream pop context. Quilla's performances antagonize the consumption of her overt identity, fusing the fields of pop culture, entertainment and debate to challenge the way we participate as an audience in spectacle, media and politics. Her practice destabilizes the assumption that the function of an image or event is to convey a specific relation, meaning or effect to a viewer and seeks to intersect, decentre and cut the vista of images that make up and habituate our everyday experiences in order to rethink these spaces as potential sites for cultural and political difference.
Jennifer Allen AKA Quilla Constance has video works in The Zabludowicz Collection, David Roberts, The Warden's Collection Goldsmith's College of Art, and private collections in the UK and overseas.
2006 MFA International Exhibition and Residency, Tel-Aviv, Israel, (Funded by Arts Council England)
2004 Artists-Link Residency Programme, Lasalle-Dhu International Design Space, Shanghai (Funded by Arts Council England and The British Council).
2001 Laurence Binyon Memorial Prize - Artists' Travel Award and Residency, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Funded by University of Oxford).
